Platform Engineering Lead

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineering / Software Development Lead to join a well established technology and engineering partner in a permanent role, delivering large scale programs for Australian government and Defence clients. You will sit at the centre of software delivery, connecting product, engineering, and platform operations, and you will own the processes, tooling, and automation that allow engineering teams to turn source code into secure, deployable, fully configured environments at pace.

About the role

Operating as the technical link between product, delivery, engineering, and platform operations, you will define and continuously improve the way software is built, tested, released, and run. Your focus will be keeping delivery scalable, secure, compliant, and operationally sound across demanding, mission focused environments, while building the capability of the team around you.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, delivering to scope, schedule, and quality.
• Design and maintain container orchestration solutions covering deployment, scaling, networking, and management of containerised workloads.
• Build and run automation for application and infrastructure delivery, from build through to release.
• Own ongoing production support of platforms in operation, including change and incident management, service requests, proactive monitoring, and maintenance.
• Embed security from the very start of the development lifecycle and keep it front of mind throughout.
• Produce clear architecture and design documentation grounded in recognised patterns and frameworks.
• Drive improvement across engineering standards, processes, and ways of working.
• Represent the team in technical and delivery conversations with clients and external partners.

What you will bring

• Seven or more years in a comparable software delivery or platform engineering leadership position.
• A track record of leading and developing engineers while delivering complex technical work.
• Strong continuous integration and continuous delivery capability, with genuine hands on pipeline experience.
• Infrastructure as code expertise, ideally including Terraform and Ansible.
• Sound configuration and source control discipline across all artefacts.
• Confidence with at least one public or private cloud platform.
• Comfort working in Linux environments, with Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred.
• Experience with at least one container platform and an orchestration tool.
• Working knowledge of an object oriented language such as Java or .NET.
• Familiarity with secure development environments and practices.
• An understanding of how legacy technology shapes and constrains delivery.
• Exposure to Cross Domain Solutions concepts would be well regarded.

Clearance and eligibility

This role requires an active NV2 security clearance at commencement, with a genuine pathway to Positive Vetting. Applicants must be Australian citizens and able to hold and maintain the required clearance. Given the sensitivity of the work, some positions carry additional security and export considerations linked to citizenship and background, which will be discussed during the process.
Given the nature of the engagement, you will be based onsite in Canberra five days per week.
