Telstra Health Solutions Engineer
The role of Solution Engineer is to design and facilitate the delivery of architectural solutions for new and enhanced business capabilities. Solution design is carried out in consultation with Solutions Architects, Business Analysts and Lead Developers. Delivery is facilitated through close collaboration with Project Managers, Lead Developers and Testers.
This role requires a diverse background with cloud solutions in areas such as IaaS, DevOps, Microservices, Storage, Networking, Security and OSS technology. As a Solution Engineer you will architect and design systems, build out proof of concepts, and compare and contrast technology alternatives to deliver technical solutions and lead implementations. The position of Solution Engineer reports to the Platform Engineering Manager.
Solution Design
Working independently (within broad guidelines) design architectural solutions to deliver business requirements and aligned to architectural and IT roadmaps through the following activities:
- Collaborating with the business stakeholders to refine and understand the requirement business capabilities
- Working with Solution Architects, Lead Developers to agree upon architectural solutions
- Documentation and presentation of solutions in sufficient detail to allow an estimation of the effort required for delivery
- Documentation and presentation of high level solution for socialisation with business stakeholders and senior management
Solution Delivery
Working with the project team consisting of Project Managers, Iteration Managers, Business Analysts, Developers and Testers to facilitate the delivery of solutions through the following activities:
- Assisting the project manager in understanding the dependencies between impacted systems to allow for effective project planning
- Assisting the project manager in identifying risks and issues relating to the solution and any dependencies on other initiatives.
- Ensuring that the solution is understood by developers and testers and providing elaboration where required
- Supporting the development and test teams in diagnosing and resolving architectural and technical issues in a consultative capacity throughout the project

| Demonstrable expert experience in · Cloud-based solutions using IaaS, PaaS and SaaS patterns · Generalist knowledge for solutions in infrastructure, security and networking · Analysing, specifying and documenting architectural solutions to satisfy complex business requirements involving large numbers of systems. · Negotiating solutions with disparate stakeholders often with conflicting goals or agendas. · Debating solutions within a wider architectural community. · Collaborating with project teams consisting of project managers, business analysts, developers, testers and operational staff to ensure that specified solutions are understood and to facilitate delivery. · Contributing to architectural and IT roadmaps. · Deep knowledge of cloud, infrastructure, integration and software development

Development
| Demonstrable expert experience in · Programming (advanced competency in any language): understanding of complex data structures (heaps, trees, efficiency for searching data structures, object orientation). Java and C# preferred. · Scripting languages such as python and powershell. · Web Technologies (HTTP, HTML, Javascript, XML, cookies, and usage). · Web Servers/App Servers/Proxy: Tomcat, Nginx, Apache, Varnish, Squid, etc. · Familiarity with data flows & client/server models used in Internet applications. (i.e. understanding of DNS resolution, deployment of web services) · Networking: TCP/IP, data transport options for use in web, common networking infrastructure & system design (load balancers, firewalls, VPN, VPC). · Message Queuing: Rabbit MQ, Kafka, ZeroMQ, Google PubSub, etc. · NoSQL Databases: Cassandra, HBase, Redis, MongoDB, Google Cloud Datastore, etc. · Familiarity with databases & basic design of schemas/tables. Able to query database with somewhat simple SQL queries with minimum reference. Basic comprehension of database performance & factors influencing efficiency of searches. · Linux/Unix: command line, advanced understanding of processes, load, system constraints; IP networking, VPNs, TCP/IP diagnositics · Systems Design: detailed design including API details and specifics of implementation. Design considerations around security, efficiency & complexity. Trade-offs of each. Capable of authoring documents which software engineering can deliver against. |
