PLC Technician
We are seeking a PLC Technician to be responsible for the programming, troubleshooting, modification, and maintenance of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, human machine interfaces (HMIs), and related automated control systems throughout our injection molding, blow molding, paint, and assembly operations. This role requires strong working knowledge of Boolean logic as applied to industrial control systems, including the ability to read, interpret, write, and debug Boolean expressions, ladder logic, and structured text programs that govern machine sequencing, interlocks, safety circuits, and I/O operations. The PLC Technician will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to minimize downtime, optimize equipment performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop, write, modify, & debug PLC programs utilizing Boolean logic, ladder logic, structured text, & function block diagrams to control injection molding machines, blow molding equipment, robotic systems, conveyors, & auxiliary automation.
- Apply Boolean algebra principles to design & troubleshoot control sequences, interlocks, timers, counters, and conditional machine logic.
- Create & modify HMI screens & control interfaces to provide real-time machine status.
- Implement & maintain safety circuits & machine interlocks for safe machine operation.
- Diagnose & resolve complex equipment failures by analyzing PLC I/O, Boolean logic sequences, & control programs to identify root causes.
- Read & interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, blueprints, & PLC documentation to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on PLC-controlled systems, automation cells, and related electrical and control components.
- Calibrate & test sensors, proximity switches, motor controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, and other control components.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve machine uptime, cycle time efficiency, scrap reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production teams and others to resolve equipment & process issues.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, & integration of new equipment, automation upgrades, & line modifications.
- Provide technical support & training to maintenance technicians on basic PLC troubleshooting & safe operation of automated systems.
- Document all PLC program modifications, maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in internal tracking systems.
- Other duties as assigned
