Description

Hello,

Greetings from ZettaMine!!!

Freelancing Opportunity :- We are hiring a Pod Lead Civil & Structural Engineering (Terminal Bench Science) for a short-term Frontier AI Research, Scientific Computing & Engineering Evaluation project across the following location: India

Role: Pod Lead Civil & Structural Engineering (Terminal Bench Science)

Educational Eligibility: PhD, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical experience in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Mode: Remote

Start: Immediate

Employment Type: Part-time

Availability:

  • Minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Availability to work at least 8 hours per day.
  • Minimum 4 hours of overlap with PST business hours.

Mandatory Eligibility Criteria

Technical Qualification:

  • PhD, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical expertise in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, Julia, Fortran, or MATLAB/Octave, with proficiency in Linux environments and terminal-based workflows.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least one major area: Structural Analysis | Finite Element Analysis (FEA) | Earthquake Engineering | Geotechnical Modeling | Hydraulic & Hydrological Modeling.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, numerical methods, simulation workflows, model validation, and computational engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design standards such as ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, or IS Codes.
  • Experience reviewing complex engineering simulations, computational models, technical research outputs, or engineering analysis deliverables.
  • Ability to evaluate engineering accuracy across equilibrium, units, boundary conditions, load combinations, design assumptions, numerical stability, convergence, and safety factors.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify technical inaccuracies, unrealistic assumptions, edge cases, and flawed engineering methodologies.
  • Experience mentoring technical teams, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining quality standards.
  • Excellent written communication skills for providing precise technical feedback and documenting engineering requirements.

What You'll Work On

  • Lead and mentor a pod of approximately 510 technical trainers developing realistic, terminal-based engineering tasks for a frontier AI training and evaluation initiative.
  • Review engineering tasks end to end, including problem statements, structural and geotechnical models, load cases, simulation datasets, computational environments, reference solutions, and automated tests.
  • Validate tasks involving Structural Analysis, Finite Element Methods (FEA), Earthquake & Wind Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Transportation Engineering, and Infrastructure Systems.
  • Ensure tasks reflect realistic civil and structural engineering workflows that require meaningful multi-step engineering reasoning.
  • Verify engineering correctness across load calculations, force balance, units, design assumptions, boundary conditions, load combinations, safety factors, and numerical convergence.
  • Validate computational models, engineering solvers, software dependencies, simulation environments, and generated outputs to ensure reproducibility and technical accuracy.
  • Review automated graders to ensure they accurately evaluate engineering outputs such as forces, stresses, strains, deflections, drifts, settlements, factors of safety, flow rates, and structural performance metrics.
  • Identify technical inaccuracies, flawed assumptions, incorrect tolerances, simulation errors, and opportunities to bypass engineering analysis.
  • Provide actionable technical feedback, track revisions, and ensure quality issues are resolved before task approval.
  • Onboard trainers, allocate work, monitor quality and productivity, and resolve technical blockers.
  • Maintain technical documentation, quality standards, and best practices throughout engineering task development.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with engineering tools such as OpenSees/OpenSeesPy, Code_Aster, CalculiX, FEniCS, Gmsh, PyNite, EPANET, SWMM, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, SUMO, QGIS, or GDAL.
  • Familiarity with commercial engineering software such as SAP2000, ETABS, Abaqus, PLAXIS, or STAAD.Pro.
  • Experience with nonlinear time-history analysis, performance-based design, reliability analysis, or structural health monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
  • Experience developing or evaluating AI coding agents, terminal-based agents, or LLM-generated engineering solutions.
  • Professional engineering licensure such as PE, SE, CEng, or equivalent.
  • Industry experience working on buildings, bridges, transportation networks, water systems, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience in AI training, technical quality control, benchmark development, or evaluation programs.
