Podcasting and Social Media DIR, PODCASTING & SOCIAL MEDIA
The Podcasting & Social Media Director position exists to lead the team responsible for Focus on the Family's podcasting & social media brand areas. The position ensures that the assigned brand's content reaches and engages constituents through high-quality long-form episodes and a consistent stream of short-form clips, all reflecting Focus on the Family's voice, theology, and standards so that families and ministry audiences are reached, engaged, discipled, and strengthened in Christ. The Director owns quality control and performance analysis for both long-form and short-form content, oversees the regular publishing cadence of full episodes, and consults the teams on production decisions and approvals in order for the team to create content that is editorially sound, on brand, and built to perform on each platform. The role connects content decisions to audience data, holding the team accountable to measurable engagement and growth, and must balance output and voice across each brand or audience. The position leads a multi-disciplinary team that may include producers, assistant producers, videographers, graphic designers, and community managers, fostering a collaborative, Christ-centered, accountable culture that maximizes each person's gifts while keeping the ministry's mission at the center of every editorial and distribution decision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Owns quality control and performance analysis for long-form content within the assigned brand area, reviewing full episodes before publication and analyzing how they perform across podcast platforms and social channels
Coordinates the publication of long-form content on respective platforms
Reviews long-form episodes for editorial accuracy, brand voice, theological soundness, and platform readiness – across each brand within the assigned area
Analyzes listen-through, retention, and engagement data and translates findings into actionable improvements for the team
Owns quality control and performance analysis for short-form content within the assigned brand area, ensuring clips and reels are on brand, well-crafted, and optimized for each channel and audience
Reviews short-form pieces produced by videographers, producers, and community managers for quality, accuracy, and brand fit
Analyzes short-form reach and engagement metrics and guides clip selection, formatting, and posting strategy
Oversees long-form publishing for assigned brand feeds, ensuring a consistent cadence of full episodes is scheduled, optimized, and released on time (typical cadence ranges from approximately 8 to 12 episodes per period depending on the brand assignment)
Manages episode metadata, titles, descriptions, and artwork coordination for publication; maintains the publishing calendar and ensures releases align with broader ministry priorities and, where applicable, balance output across multiple brands
Serves as the production consultant and approval authority for the team, advising producers, videographers, graphic designers, and community managers on production decisions and granting final approvals before content goes live
Sets and upholds production and editorial standards for the team, respecting the distinct tone each brand or audience requires
Resolves creative and technical questions and ensures approvals move efficiently
Leads, coaches, and develops the assigned podcasting and social media team, setting goals, reviewing performance, and fostering a collaborative and accountable culture
Partners with the Podcasting & Social Media Sr. Director and peer Directors to align strategy, share learnings, and coordinate cross-brand initiatives.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
Participates in team and leadership meetings, planning sessions, and ministry-wide initiatives
Monitors platform changes and audience trends affecting the assigned brand's content and advises leadership accordingly
Coordinates with content, marketing, ministry, and (where applicable) broadcast or editorial partners as needed
Supports special projects as directed by the Podcasting & Social Media Sr. Director
Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., printed pieces, voice work, photography, video, music, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, DVD and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which will be for the benefit of Focus on the Family
Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:
Provides leadership and oversight for the assigned brand area's podcasting and social media team
Directly supervises a multi-disciplinary team that may include producers and assistant producers, videographers, graphic designers, and community managers
Coordinates closely with the Podcasting & Social Media Sr. Director and peer Directors in a matrixed environment
Typically manages a team of approximately 3-10 direct reports
Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
Works primarily in an office environment
May require occasional domestic and international travel
May require evening and weekend commitments tied to publishing schedules and production needs
May involve time in recording, video, and editing spaces alongside the production team

Knowledge/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications, media, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience in podcasting, video, or social media content, including some supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience managing both long-form and short-form content workflows
Experience publishing to podcast platforms and major social channels
Working knowledge of platform analytics and the ability to act on the data
Experience leading or coordinating producers and creative staff
Familiarity with Christian content and the ability to uphold ministry standards across the assigned audience
Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:
Strong editorial and quality-control skills across audio, video, and written content
Solid understanding of podcast platforms, social algorithms, and clip strategy
Ability to analyze content performance and turn data into improvements
Strong organizational and scheduling skills to maintain a consistent publishing cadence (across multiple brands or audiences where applicable)
Ability to coach producers, videographers, designers, and community managers
Clear written and verbal communication
Familiarity with content management, scheduling, and analytics tools
Ability to manage multiple priorities and approvals simultaneously
Stewardship Requirements:
Demonstrates a commitment to responsible stewardship of donor-provided resources in content production and tooling decisions
Understands and operates within a donor-supported ministry environment

Pay Range: $100,966 to $117,812
