Polysomnographic Tech II
Performs and evaluates overnight polysomnograms. Operates equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. Applies recording devices to the patient. Cleans/sterilizes equipment. Recognizes sleep pathology and responds with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. Performs record review/scoring of polysomnograms. Provides orientation and instruction, as well as serves as a resource, to staff in the Sleep Center.
- Performs overnight testing procedures as assigned and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Thoroughly interviews patients to assess current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion, current sleep pattern and need for treatment during testing (i.e. insulin).
- Thoroughly communicates with appropriate personnel to clarify unclear or inappropriate orders, as well as to provide updates on the patient's status.
- Measures and applies appropriate EEG electrodes utilizing the International 10-20 system.
- Applies appropriate EKG, EMG or EOG monitoring electrodes
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Required:
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent
- Experience: 1 year of Polysomnographic Tech experience required
- Licensure/Certification:
- Certification by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists as an RPSGT or equivalent is required
- BLS required
