SUMMARY

The Pool Supervisor Intern is a critical seasonal leadership position within Chevy Chase Club’s summer operation. Although structured as an internship, the role functions much like a seasonal management position and is a budgeted part of the Pool operation. The intern works alongside the Pool Manager and is expected to contribute at a high level from pre-opening through the summer season. The role combines line-level credibility, employee training, daily floor leadership, administrative management responsibilities, member service recovery, and hands-on operational ownership. The successful candidate will leave the summer with a realistic understanding of club management and substantial experience leading a high-volume seasonal team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

1. Follows Chevy Chase Club and department policies, procedures, service standards, safety practices, and House Rules. Acts ethically and honestly and represents the Club professionally at all times.

2. Maintains the Club’s standards for uniform, grooming, hygiene, personal presentation, punctuality, and professional conduct. Wears the uniform required for assigned line-level functions and follows manager/business-professional attire standards when scheduled in a management capacity.

3. Demonstrates a positive mental attitude, genuine friendliness, teamwork, professionalism, curiosity, humility, self-awareness, and is receptive to feedback.

4. Builds professional relationships with employees and managers across the Club. Earns trust and respect through reliability, effort, follow-through, and willingness to help wherever needed.

5. Treats line-level work as essential leadership training. Learns each assigned position, performs it at a high level, and seeks mastery rather than simply completing a rotation.

6. Provides warm, attentive service; anticipates member and guest needs; uses professional language; and takes ownership of service recovery within the scope of the role.

7. Maintains neat, clean, safe, and fully prepared work areas and takes pride in the appearance and readiness of Club facilities.

8. Receives feedback professionally, applies it quickly, asks thoughtful questions, and demonstrates measurable growth throughout the internship.

9. Serves as a key seasonal member of the Pool Canteen management team and assists the Pool Manager/senior management with the daily operation of the Pool food and beverage program.

10. Ideally begins before Memorial Day to assist with pre-opening preparation, outlet setup, organization, inventory readiness, systems testing, and other work required to open the Pool Bar and Canteen successfully.

11. Assists with onboarding and training seasonal employees before and during the opening period. Reinforces service, safety, appearance, attendance, teamwork, and operating standards throughout the season.

12. Completes line-level training in the Pool Canteen’s core positions before assuming full supervisory responsibilities. Demonstrates credibility by knowing the work and performing it at a high level.

13. Progresses quickly into legitimate supervisory responsibility and is expected to perform as a dependable seasonal manager, not solely as an observer or extra set of hands.

14. Works opening, closing, and mid shifts and assists with daily manager duties including lineups, floor/position assignments, breaks, service flow, outlet cleanliness, cash/POS procedures as assigned, opening/closing checklists, and shift handoffs.

15. Assists with scheduling, payroll/timekeeping review, labor deployment, requisitions, inventories, ordering processes, beverage operations, and basic operating reports as assigned by the Pool Manager.

16. Maintains a visible management presence throughout service, supports employees during peak periods, anticipates operational needs, and acts quickly when standards or member experience are at risk.

17. Handles member questions, concerns, and service recovery within the scope of the role. Escalates appropriately, communicates clearly with Pool leadership, and closes the loop.

18. Supports the operation during swim meets, member parties, holiday periods, weather-related changes, and other high-volume or unusual Pool events.

19. Assists in coordinating with Culinary, Aquatics, Facilities, Purchasing, Housekeeping, and other departments whose work affects the Pool operation.

20. Coaches seasonal employees in the moment, reinforces expectations, documents or communicates performance concerns as directed, and helps create a positive, accountable team environment.

21. Takes ownership for assigned areas of the operation and is expected to identify problems, propose solutions, and follow through without waiting to be directed on every task.

22. May receive limited exposure to other Club outlets or departments when Pool operating needs allow, but successful execution of the Pool season remains the primary responsibility.

23. Uses the role to gain substantial management and leadership experience and to prepare for future club-management opportunities, including potential progression into the Club’s Manager in Development program after graduation.

24. Participates in Internship Program events and development activities, including department discovery, leadership exposure, networking/professional development, project work, and other events on the intern calendar.

25. Works collaboratively with the intern team to plan and execute the Employee Picnic. Communicates with department heads, owns assigned work, solves problems with appropriate independence, meets deadlines, and contributes to an event that reflects the Club’s standards.

26. Completes assigned projects, presentations, reflections, meetings, and other program requirements by established deadlines.

27. Works a schedule based on Club operations, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak-volume periods. Interns are expected to be present for the full program whenever possible and to provide as much advance notice as possible for any requested time off.

Following successful line-level training, the Pool Supervisor Intern is expected to exercise meaningful day-to-day supervisory responsibility under the direction of the Pool Manager and Food & Beverage leadership.
