Summary

The Portfolio Director, Clinical Operations AI and Data is responsible for coordinating Moffitt Cancer Center's initiatives to safely and effectively implement the AI and data strategy for clinical operations and to accelerate Moffitt's mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

As the clinical-operations execution arm of Moffitt's Integrated AI Strategy, the role serves as the portfolio lead for the clinical-operations sub-portfolio within Moffitt's single enterprise AI portfolio of record, owning intake, vetting, prioritization, sequencing, and value tracking for AI initiatives that operate in clinical and ancillary workflows across the Moffitt Medical Group, hospital, clinical departments, and ancillary services.

The Portfolio Director leads AI exploration for embedded AI and analytics in core clinical platforms such as Epic as well as standalone products, performs cost and benefit analysis, partners with clinical leaders to develop business cases, and curates a coherent portfolio of solutions for clinical operations. The role operates through influence in a matrixed environment, engaging Moffitt clinicians, AI Governance, Information Technology, Cyber Security, and the PMO to vet solutions and define implementation requirements.

This role owns the deployment, workflow integration, adoption, and value realization of AI in clinical operations. The portfolio spans both strategic priorities for the future of cancer care and near-term operational opportunities to improve care delivery and drive efficiency.

Responsibilities:

Partner with Clinical Leaders to Identify Opportunities and Develop Business Cases

  • Work directly with clinical, ancillary, and operational leaders across the Moffitt Medical Group and clinical departments to identify AI opportunities that advance Moffitt's Integrated AI Strategy for clinical operations and improve patient experience, clinical care, and ancillary department performance.
  • Lead structured opportunity framing, defining the clinical or operational problem, intended users, success measures, and value hypothesis.
  • Co-develop business cases with clinical sponsors, including total cost of ownership, implementation effort, expected clinical, operational, and financial value, and risk.
  • Define and track value metrics, financial and non-financial, for funded initiatives, including realized benefits versus baseline.

Lead AI Exploration Across Embedded and Standalone Solutions

  • Lead exploration of AI opportunities, both embedded AI and analytics in key platforms (e.g., Epic) and standalone products, across patient experience, clinical care, and ancillary departments.
  • Own the deployment, integration, adoption, and ongoing optimization of validated clinical AI within integrated workflows. Operationalize models approved through enterprise AI governance.
  • Track new AI capabilities in core clinical and EMR systems (e.g., Epic, ancillary clinical platforms, integrated analytics tools), maintaining an up-to-date view of newly released, in-development, and roadmap features to inform portfolio decisions and surface opportunities for clinical operations.
  • Coordinate structured discovery, including vendor scans, demos, pilots, and proof-of-value work, to test feasibility, clinical fit, and operational readiness.
  • Translate clinical and operational problems into well-scoped AI use cases, and translate technical capability back into clinical and operational value.
  • Monitor the broader external AI landscape (point solutions, peer academic medical centers, oncology-specific tools) to complement core platform tracking and inform exploration priorities.

Partner with AI Governance, IT, Cyber Security, and the PMO to Vet Solutions and Define Implementation Requirements

  • Support the Chief Health Informatics Officer's clinical AI governance responsibilities by ensuring every clinical-operations initiative meets enterprise AI governance requirements before commitment. This role operationalizes governance requirements within the portfolio.
  • Engage AI Governance early to address model intake, validation, monitoring, bias and fairness, and responsible-use requirements.
  • Partner with Information Technology on architecture, integration, HR and data platform fit, and data readiness.
  • Partner with Cyber Security on security, privacy, third-party risk, and regulatory considerations (HIPAA, FDA SaMD, ONC).
  • Partner with the PMO on intake, prioritization standards, resourcing, execution governance, and change management.
  • Ensure each solution advancing through the portfolio has clearly defined implementation requirements before commitment.

Curate and Manage the Portfolio of AI Solutions

  • Curate a portfolio of AI solutions for clinical operations, balanced across embedded AI and analytics in key platforms and standalone products, and across patient experience, clinical care, and ancillary department use cases.
  • Operate intake, triage, prioritization, sequencing, and stage-gate processes for new opportunities.
  • Maintain a real-time view of in-flight, planned, and retired initiatives with clear status, value, risk, and dependencies.
  • Create and execute portfolio deliverables, including Charter, Roadmap, Strategy and Management plans, governance and stakeholder model, communication plan, ideation process, selection and prioritization criteria, value metrics, feasibility reviews, and change management, and revise them as needs and requirements change.

Align the Portfolio to Strategic Priorities and to the Enterprise AI Portfolio of

Record

  • Align the Portfolio to Strategic Priorities and to the Enterprise AI Portfolio of Record
  • Maintain the clinical-operations sub-portfolio as one of three sub- portfolios within Moffitt's single enterprise AI portfolio of record.
  • Ensure the portfolio reflects both the strategic plan for the future of cancer care and current operational opportunities to advance care and create efficiencies.
  • Integrate AI initiatives into Moffitt Medical Group and clinical department roadmaps in alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Include clinical-operations analytics that directly drives care delivery, such as throughput, clinic capacity, provider clinical productivity, and care-pathway performance, coordinated with the business operations pillar.
  • Coordinate with the peer functions supporting research and discovery and business operations to share intake standards, prioritization criteria, and value metrics, and to identify cross-pillar opportunities.
  • Partner on the research-to-operations handoff, taking approved models into clinical deployment, and partner where a clinical workflow shares an operational or financial system.
  • As an Innovation and Entrepreneurship pillar matures, coordinate with it to share standards and surface cross-pillar opportunities.
  • Lead through influence in a matrixed environment, advancing initiatives without direct reporting authority.
  • Draft briefing materials, portfolio dashboards, and presentations for executive, cabinet, and board-level audiences.

  • Direct experience with AI in healthcare, evaluating, piloting, or operationalizing AI/ML or advanced analytics solutions in a clinical, ancillary, or operational setting.
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to engage credibly with data, informatics, and engineering teams, including a foundational understanding of AI/ML models, generative AI, data pipelines, EHR data structures, integration patterns, and the data readiness required to support AI.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with AI Governance, Information Technology, Cyber Security, and a PMO to vet solutions and define implementation requirements (security, privacy, integration, model validation, change management, resource planning).
  • Demonstrated experience working with clinical leaders to identify opportunities and develop business cases, including cost and benefit analysis and value definition.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives through influence in a matrixed environment, without direct reporting authority.
