Subject to the candidate’s experience, leadership capability and regulatory suitability, the candidate may also be considered for appointment as an Executive Director.

Key responsibilities

Establishment and licensing

  • Contribute to the development of the proposed business model, investment proposition and target client segments.

  • Develop the investment philosophy, portfolio-construction methodology and investment decision-making framework.

  • Establish policies and procedures covering investment research, portfolio management, trade execution, valuation, liquidity and investment risk.

  • Develop the proposed governance structure for the Investment Committee and other investment-related approval processes.

  • Assist in selecting and engaging custodians, brokers, fund administrators, technology providers and other service providers.

  • Support the preparation and submission of the regulatory licence application.

  • Work with management and Compliance personnel to address regulatory and operational requirements.

Portfolio Management

Following licensing and commencement of the asset-management business:

  • Develop and implement investment strategies consistent with approved mandates, investment objectives and risk parameters.

  • Conduct investment research, financial analysis and due diligence across relevant markets and asset classes.

  • Make or contribute substantively to asset-allocation, security-selection and portfolio-construction decisions.

  • Execute or oversee investment transactions and portfolio rebalancing.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, market developments, investment risks, liquidity and compliance with investment mandates.

  • Prepare investment papers, portfolio reports and performance-attribution analyses.

  • Present investment recommendations and portfolio updates to the Investment Committee and management.

  • Maintain complete records of investment research, decisions, approvals and transactions.

  • Engage with clients, custodians, brokers, fund administrators, auditors and other professional counterparties.

  • Support the development of new investment mandates, products and client solutions.

  • Undertake the responsibilities of an appointed representative for fund management, where applicable.

Requirements

  • At least five years of relevant experience within the fund-management value chain.

  • Direct experience in portfolio management, investment research, asset allocation, securities analysis, trading, investment risk or another substantively relevant investment function.

  • Demonstrable personal involvement in investment decisions and portfolio outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products, portfolio construction and investment risk.

  • Familiarity with the regulatory and governance expectations applicable to fund managers in Singapore.

  • Degree in finance, economics, accountancy, business or another relevant discipline.

  • CFA, CAIA or another relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.

  • Strong analytical, written, presentation and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Sound judgement and high standards of integrity and fiduciary responsibility.

  • Comfortable working hands-on in a lean and developing business.

  • Must be based in Singapore and able to perform the role on a full-time basis.

  • Must satisfy applicable fit-and-proper and representative appointment requirements.

Director potential

Candidates with the appropriate experience, leadership capability and regulatory suitability may be considered for appointment as an Executive Director of the proposed asset-management company. Any appointment as an Executive Director or appointed representative will be subject to the final corporate structure and applicable regulatory requirements and approvals.
