Details of Research Project:

Title: Evaluate neuronal control of macrophage function in the heart.

The candidate will use fundamental science tools to test how the nervous system regulates macrophage function and biology in the heart. The candidate will test how neurotransmitters and neuropeptides modify macrophage subsets and inflammatory processes in the heart and its vasculature at steady state, after myocardial infarction, during atherosclerosis, or in the context of other cardiovascular pathologies.

Technical Duties: (include any protocols)

Technical duties will include mouse modeling and handling, flow cytometry, advance confocal imaging of the heart, single cell sequencing, and neuronal manipulation methods like neuronal ablation, neuropeptide deletion, and brain circuit manipulation. Molecular assays like protein quantification or mRNA expression.

Educational and other Requirements for the position: PhD

Experience Required: 0

Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project:

We will identify new ways by which the nervous system regulates inflammation in the cardiovascular system. Novel signaling mechanisms will be further developed and tested for therapeutic intervention.
