Postdoctoral Researcher (PreFerS - 2)

Open 64d posting dated 3 weeks ago

Summary

Researches precision fermentation processes to develop sustainable food ingredients and enhance food security, using microbial systems and bioreactor technologies.

Introduction to The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability:

The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability (PreFerS) is a research program hosted by the Illinois Advanced Research Center at Singapore Ltd.(Illinois ARCS). The program aims to develop advanced fundamental sciences and technologies to implement fermentation-based production of foods and food ingredients, and also to enhance food security and sustainability in Singapore particularly addressing the micronutrient food insecurity through precision fermentation.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team working on advanced fermentation technologies for sustainable food and biotechnology applications. The successful candidate will lead experimental design, process optimization, and data analysis in microbial fermentation systems, contributing to projects that valorize side streams and develop novel food ingredients.

Key Responsibilities

· Design, execute, and optimize fermentation experiments (batch, fed-batch, continuous).

· Develop microbial strains (yeast or bacteria)for production of proteins, enzymes, or metabolites.

· Apply bioprocess engineering principles to maximize yield, productivity, and scalability.

· Characterize fermentation outputs using analytical methods (HPLC, LC-MS, SDS-PAGE, etc.).

· Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on precision fermentation, enzyme engineering, and upcycling projects.

· Document results and prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

· Mentor junior researchers and contribute to collaborative project development.

Job Requirements:

· PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, or related field.

· Strong background in microbial fermentation(yeast, bacteria, or mixed cultures).

· Experience with bioreactor operation, process control, and scale-up.

· Familiarity with omics tools, strain engineering, or synthetic biology is advantageous.

· Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Opportunities

· Access to state-of-the-art fermentation facilities and analytical platforms.

· Opportunities to collaborate with industry partners and contribute to translational research.

· Competitive salary and benefits package.

· Professional development support, including conference participation and training.

Application Process:

*Interested candidates should submit their resume/CV together with a cover letter outlining their qualifications and relevant experience for the position. Please also include the names and contact details of three professional referees.

Applications will be considered until the corresponding position has been filled. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
