Preconstruction Director
Description
Director of Preconstruction & Strategic Growth
Commercial Specialty Contractor | Charlotte, NC
Compensation: $140,000–$170,000 Base Salary
Location: Charlotte, NC Preferred | Raleigh or Nashville Candidates Considered
You Know the General Contractors. You Know How to Win the Work. Now Lead the Strategy.
We are partnering with an established commercial specialty contractor seeking a high-level construction professional to drive strategic growth, develop relationships with major general contractors, and lead preconstruction efforts in the Charlotte market.
This is not a traditional estimating position, and it is not simply a business development role.
We need someone who understands the construction process, knows how to position a company to win major projects, and has the relationships and credibility to get opportunities across the finish line.
The ideal candidate may currently be a Director of Preconstruction, VP of Preconstruction, Project Executive, Senior Preconstruction Manager, or strategic construction leader ready to take ownership of a growing market.
The Opportunity
-
Lead strategic preconstruction and growth initiatives throughout the Charlotte market.
-
Develop and strengthen relationships with major regional and national general contractors.
-
Identify, pursue, and help secure large commercial construction opportunities.
-
Engage with general contractors early in the design process, including schematic design (SD) and design development (DD).
-
Lead and coordinate preconstruction efforts, helping turn opportunities into awarded projects.
-
Expand the company's presence in data centers, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and sports and entertainment facilities.
-
Work directly with executive leadership to develop market strategy and pursue high-value opportunities.
What We're Looking For
-
Strong background in commercial specialty contracting, preferably Division 7, 9, or 10, including drywall, metal stud framing, building envelope, or related scopes.
-
Established relationships with major general contractors operating in Charlotte and the Southeast.
-
Experience developing relationships, pursuing projects, negotiating opportunities, and winning work.
-
Solid understanding of estimating, preconstruction, and the construction bidding process.
-
Ability to engage general contractors at the conceptual and early design stages.
-
Experience with large commercial projects, ideally including data centers, manufacturing, healthcare, or other complex construction environments.
-
Strong communication, relationship-building, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
-
Familiarity with the Charlotte construction market, ideally with at least 3–5 years of relevant market experience.
Estimating experience is highly desirable, but the ability to develop relationships and win major projects is essential.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This is an opportunity to do more than manage bids or chase leads.
You'll have the ability to influence market strategy, build relationships with some of the nation's largest general contractors, lead preconstruction efforts, and play a meaningful role in growing an established contractor's Charlotte operations.
The company is seeking the right individual and is prepared to align the title and responsibilities with the experience and capabilities of the person selected.
Ready to Make an Impact?
If you're an established construction leader with strong general contractor relationships and the ability to turn opportunities into awarded projects, we'd like to have a confidential conversation.
