Reliable Ducts Heating & Cooling is a Jacksonville-based HVAC/mechanical contractor providing service, maintenance, and new construction HVAC solutions throughout Jacksonville and surrounding markets.
We are a growing company focused on delivering quality workmanship, exceptional customer service, and successful project execution. As we continue to expand our commercial and multifamily construction operations, we are seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join our team.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing estimating, budgeting, design-assisting, and preconstruction activities
Position Overview
As the Preconstruction Manager, you will lead the estimating, budgeting, design-assist, and preconstruction efforts for HVAC and mechanical construction projects across the multifamily apartment, and commercial, markets.
You will play a critical role in securing new business opportunities and setting projects up for success by providing accurate estimates, strategic planning, value engineering solutions, risk assessment, and seamless transitions from preconstruction to operations.
Working closely with general contractors, architects/engineers, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal operations leadership, you will oversee the preconstruction process to ensure proposals are competitive, comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with project objectives.
This position serves as a key bridge between business development, estimating, preconstruction, and project execution and reports directly to the President of Reliable Ducts Heating & Cooling.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all preconstruction activities from project pursuit through turnover to operations.
  • Review drawings, specifications, conceptual designs, and project requirements to develop accurate cost estimates and budgets.
  • Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design-development, and construction-document estimates.
  • Develop project bid strategies based on scope, schedule, market conditions, competition, and risk.
  • Coordinate and lead detailed project takeoffs and material pricing.
  • Analyze labor requirements, material costs, subcontractor pricing, and overall project costs.
  • Evaluate bid documents and identify scope gaps, exclusions, clarifications, assumptions, and potential risks.
  • Collaborate with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and general contractors during design and budgeting phases.
  • Develop and present value engineering recommendations that improve constructability, cost efficiency, schedule, and project performance.
  • Participate in design-assist and design-build project delivery processes.
  • Support contract reviews and ensure alignment between awarded scope and estimate assumptions.
  • Lead project handoff meetings with Project Managers and Operations teams to ensure successful project startup.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Monitor market trends, labor rates, material pricing, and industry developments to maintain estimating accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain estimating standards, historical cost information, production rates, and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain consistent estimating processes and procedures.
  • Mentor and support estimators to enhance team performance, estimating accuracy, and professional growth.
  • Manage multiple project pursuits and estimating deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support business development efforts through estimating expertise, budget development, and preconstruction strategy.
  • Assist company leadership in evaluating potential projects, opportunities, and overall project risk and profitability.
Required Skills & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of estimating, preconstruction, project management, or related construction experience.
  • Experience with multifamily, commercial, industrial, and/or institutional construction projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, construction means and methods, materials, and labor productivity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, BIM models, and contract documents.
  • Industry certifications are a plus.

Working Conditions & Travel
  • 100% onsite position requiring the employee to be physically present at the Reliable Ducts Heating & Cooling office in Jacksonville, FL during regular business hours.
  • Primarily office-based with periodic visits to active construction sites.
  • Extended use of computers, estimating software, digital construction documents, and other technology.
  • Occasional travel for client meetings, project sites, preconstruction coordination, and business development activities.
Compensation
Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 per year
Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and relevant industry experience.
