Pricing Manager

Based in the US (New York or Washington D.C. preferred), the Pricing Manager will help drive strategic pricing initiatives across the Firm, leading sophisticated billing rate strategies, alternative fee arrangement design, and matter profitability analysis. This role partners closely with firm leadership and attorneys to develop competitive, data-driven pricing strategies that align client value with firm performance objectives.

The position will report to the Senior Director of Client Value.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of pricing strategies across practice groups and offices.
  • Evaluate local and global market trends to identify opportunities related to billing rates, profitability, and value-based fee structures.
  • Partner directly with attorneys and senior leadership to structure pricing proposals for high-value client pitches and panel appointments.
  • Oversee complex matter profitability modeling and deliver strategic pricing recommendations to firm management.
  • Direct the development of budgets for significant matters, leveraging historical data and comparable matters to inform assumptions.
  • Collaborate with Project Performance Management and Billing team members to monitor active matters, proactively identifying risks and recommending re-pricing or scope adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain oversight of the Firm’s rates and special fee arrangements database, ensuring governance, consistency, and data integrity.
  • Produce executive-level reporting and presentations on pricing trends, performance metrics, and strategic opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance, IT, Business Development, and Practice Management to enhance pricing tools, reporting capabilities, and data capture processes.
  • Analyze client portfolio performance to identify margin improvement opportunities and support strategic client planning.
  • Lead and execute cross-functional initiatives and special projects related to pricing innovation and value delivery.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior pricing team members as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of legal pricing, alternative fee arrangements, and matter economics.
  • Strategic thinker who can translate detailed financial analysis into firm-wide business insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment.
  • Highly adaptable and capable of navigating competing priorities in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality of firm and client information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience presenting to senior attorneys and management.
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal and personnel affairs and client information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills are required to build and maintain effective relationships with senior management, attorneys and staff.

Experience:

  • University degree required; preferred fields include business, economics, law, finance, accounting, or project management.
  • At least five (5) years of financial, pricing, or commercial strategy experience.
  • Large law firm or corporate legal department experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong experience working with large, complex data sets. Experience with financial systems, reporting tools, and data visualization platforms preferred.
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring team members preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $150-195k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
