What You’ll Be Doing...

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a key technical leader within Verizon’s mobile device ecosystem. You will play a critical role in ensuring that millions of our customers have a seamless, high-performance experience on the Android devices connecting to Verizon’s world-class network. In this position, you will drive technical collaboration and maintain strong relationships with Android OEMs and OS providers. This requires a deep, hands-on understanding of the Android platform, OEM development cycles, and mobile software integration. You will be responsible for evaluating new device features and software to support Verizon's services and network architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Android Support & OEM Engagement: Driving day-to-day Android technical support across key partners like Google, Samsung, and Motorola. You will triage production issues, coordinate fixes, and ensure timely resolution with OEMs.

  • Debug and Optimize Client Software: Testing, debuging, and optimizing Verizon's client software across multiple Android OS releases to ensure it remains robust, reliable, and efficient.

  • Evaluate New Technologies: Analyzing and evaluating new device features and client-side software solutions to assess their impact and feasibility for Verizon’s products and network.

  • System-Level Development & Troubleshooting: Writing, debuging, and refining system-level code, utilizing modern AI-assisted tools to accelerate coding and troubleshooting workflows.

  • Document Architecture & Best Practices: Detailing software architecture, implementation steps, and support procedures to establish repeatable processes and share domain knowledge across the team.

  • Represent Verizon in Technical Forums: Acting as a key technical representative for Verizon in discussions with OS providers (e.g., Google/Android), focusing on technical issues affecting current and future devices.

  • Collaborate with Internal and External Teams: Serving as a technical liaison between external OEM engineering groups and internal development teams, translating device capabilities into clear system requirements.

  • Technical Mentorship: Mentoring and guiding other engineers on Android platform architecture, low-level software debugging, and effective OEM collaboration.

What We Are Looking For

You are an accomplished technical expert dedicated to developing solutions that improve the customer experience for millions. As a subject matter expert in the Android Ecosystem, you excel at applying your judgment to solve complex problems. You have a proven ability to navigate challenging engineering ecosystems, build strong professional networks, and communicate technical concepts clearly to partners and internal teams.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience with mobile or embedded systems, including direct experience with production support.

  • Experience supporting multiple Android OEM variants (e.g., Pixel, Samsung, Motorola) across concurrent OS releases.

  • Experience using modern AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, or triage workflows.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Deep, low-level understanding of the Android operating system, framework, and ecosystem.

  • Working knowledge of other mobile platforms, such as iOS.

  • Strong proficiency in C, C++, and Java, with experience debugging at the driver or system level.

  • Extensive experience capturing and analyzing system-level mobile logs (e.g., logcat, modem logs) to isolate and report device issues.

  • Exceptional troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

  • Experience coordinating with vendors and OEMs on technical roadmaps and project timelines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships, navigate vendor discussions, and explain complex technical issues to stakeholders.

  • Ability to create clear technical documentation and presentations.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $120,500.00 - $231,000.00.
