Principal Application Software Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to lead the architecture, design, development, and optimization of large-scale distributed systems and analytics platforms.

In this role, you will build scalable, highly available data infrastructure and real-time analytics capabilities that support critical OCI services. You will guide complex technical initiatives from initial design through production deployment, influence architectural direction, and promote engineering excellence across the organization.

You will collaborate with software engineers, architects, product managers, designers, customers, and other stakeholders to translate business and customer requirements into secure, resilient, and high-performance solutions. You will also mentor engineers and strengthen development practices across architecture, coding, testing, automation, observability, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable, highly available distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and analytics platforms.

  • Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and implementation decisions for complex, large-scale systems.

  • Build and optimize data infrastructure and near-real-time analytics capabilities that process large volumes of infrastructure and business data.

  • Drive service reliability, performance, security, and operational excellence through automation, observability, testing, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from requirements and architecture through production deployment.

  • Conduct design and code reviews, establish engineering standards, and promote secure coding and software development best practices.

  • Mentor and coach engineers, helping teams strengthen their technical judgment, execution quality, and system-design capabilities.

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, architects, engineers, customers, and stakeholders to evaluate requirements and deliver resilient, customer-focused solutions.

Qualifications and Skills

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including substantial experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.

  • Strong proficiency in Java and demonstrated experience developing and deploying production-grade microservices.

  • Deep understanding of distributed-system concepts, including scalability, availability, fault tolerance, consistency, and performance.

  • Experience designing data models, data-processing systems, data platforms, or analytics architectures.

  • Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications on at least one major cloud platform, such as OCI, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or an equivalent platform.

  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevOps practices, observability, and performance optimization.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence architectural decisions, and independently drive projects from design to production.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and promoting high standards for architecture, coding, testing, security, and operational readiness.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and product organizations.

Good-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience processing large volumes of infrastructure, telemetry, operational, or business data.

  • Knowledge of business intelligence and visualization technologies such as Oracle Analytics Cloud, Tableau, or Microsoft Power BI.

  • Experience developing near-real-time analytics, forecasting, capacity-planning, or recommendation systems.

  • Familiarity with AI- or machine-learning-enabled data products and analytics experiences.

  • Experience leading initiatives that span multiple teams or engineering organizations.

  • Knowledge of OCI services, architecture patterns, security practices, and operational processes.
