About the role

As the Principal Platform Architect reporting to the Manager, Integration, Data and AI/ML Architecture, the role provides senior architecture leadership across AGL’s cloud-first technology landscape. Azure is the primary cloud platform, supported by strong multi-cloud experience including AWS, SaaS platforms and enterprise integration capabilities.

This role is important now because AGL continues to invest significantly in cloud and SaaS platforms, but there is currently no dedicated Principal Platform Architect role providing end-to-end leadership across this space. The role will uplift platform strategy, simplify architecture, strengthen governance, improve reuse and ensure platform investments are secure, scalable, cost-effective and aligned to business outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Define and govern reference architectures, standards and guardrails across cloud, SaaS, integration, identity, networking, observability and automation platforms.

  • Provide strategic architecture leadership across Azure, AWS and broader enterprise platform ecosystems.

  • Partner with engineering teams to uplift platform engineering capabilities, automation practices and AI-assisted design and delivery approaches.

  • Strengthen governance across cloud and SaaS platforms, including security, resilience, compliance, lifecycle management and vendor oversight.

  • Drive platform roadmap and investment decisions to maximise business value, reduce risk and improve operational efficiency.

  • Lead architecture outcomes across complex transformation programs, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure and aligned to enterprise standards.

  • Engage with senior executives and business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations and outcomes.

  • Coach and mentor architects, engineers and delivery teams to improve architecture quality, consistency, reuse and delivery speed.

  • Promote modern practices including infrastructure as code, DevOps, observability and service reliability engineering.

  • Identify emerging technologies and opportunities to continuously enhance AGL's platform capabilities and architecture landscape.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive experience in platform, cloud or enterprise architecture roles within large and complex organisations.

  • Deep expertise across Azure and multi-cloud environments, including AWS, Kubernetes, platform engineering, automation and infrastructure as code.

  • Strong knowledge of SaaS and integration architectures, including API-led integration, identity federation, enterprise platforms and lifecycle management.

  • Proven ability to define architecture strategies, reference architectures, standards and governance frameworks that simplify delivery and improve reuse.

  • Strong understanding of cloud security, resilience, compliance, risk management, zero-trust principles and FinOps practices.

  • Hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise-scale platforms with a focus on reliability, performance and scalability.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-enabled engineering and design practices to improve productivity, quality and delivery outcomes.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and technical leaders alike.

  • Strong leadership capability with experience coaching architects, engineers and delivery teams in complex environments.

  • Proven success leading architecture outcomes across large transformation programs and navigating ambiguity to solve complex business challenges.

  • Experience within the energy sector or other highly regulated, asset-intensive industries will be highly regarded.

  • Relevant Azure, AWS and cloud architecture certifications are advantageous.

We’d love to see your applications by Thursday 17th September 2026.
