Project description

Our Client is a leading global financial markets infrastructure and data provider. Their purpose is driving financial stability, empowering economies and enabling customers to create sustainable growth. We are looking for a hands-on Principal Software Engineer with 12–15 years of experience joining our engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services and platform capabilities. You will work on modern backend systems using Python, FastAPI, Redis, and cloud-native technologies, while contributing to architecture, API design, performance, reliability, and engineering quality. Experience with Azure Container Apps and Azure Blob Storage is desirable. Familiarity with React and frontend integration patterns is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Python
  • Build high-performance, secure, and maintainable services using FastAPI and similar web frameworks
  • Own backend architecture, technical design, and implementation for complex systems
  • Design and consume RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications
  • Build reusable backend components, platform services, and integration capabilities
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases to design efficient data models and access patterns
  • Collaborate with product, frontend, platform, QA, DevOps, and security teams to deliver robust solutions
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis and long-term fixes
  • Write unit, integration, and API tests to ensure high code quality and release confidence
  • Define and promote coding standards, engineering best practices, and CI quality gates
  • Participate in design discussions, technical refinements, and architecture reviews
  • Leverage GitHub Copilot to improve productivity, code quality, refactoring, testing, and documentation
  • Partner with frontend teams to design efficient API contracts and support seamless frontend-backend integration

SKILLS

Must have

  • 12–15 years of software engineering experience. Backend Engineering & Python
  • Advanced Python development experience for production-grade backend systems
  • Strong experience with FastAPI
  • Familiarity with similar Python web frameworks such as Flask or Django
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Experience with async programming patterns using asyncio, async FastAPI, or similar libraries
  • Strong understanding of request lifecycle, middleware, dependency injection, authentication flows, and error handling
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable, and production-ready code Platform & Architecture
  • Strong understanding of backend architecture, microservices, and distributed systems
  • Experience building scalable backend platforms, reusable services, or internal developer/platform capabilities
  • Experience with API gateways, service-to-service communication, retries, timeouts, rate limiting, and resiliency patterns
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging patterns Data, Caching & Storage
  • Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience with NoSQL databases where applicable
  • Hands-on experience with Redis is a plus
  • Strong understanding of database design, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and data consistency patterns
  • Familiarity with object storage concepts; experience with Azure Blob Storage is a plus Cloud & Infrastructure
  • Experience with containerized application development using Docker
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms
  • Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines using GitLab pipelines
  • Experience with cloud-native application development is desirable
  • Azure experience is good to have, especially with: o Azure Container Apps o Azure Blob Storage
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform AI-Assisted Development
  • Proficient in using GitHub Copilot for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, and test generation
  • Good judgment on when to rely on AI suggestions versus manual implementation
  • Experience integrating Copilot-assisted workflows into day-to-day engineering practices is desirable

Nice to have

• Familiarity with React and modern frontend development concepts • Understanding of frontend-backend integration patterns and API consumption • Exposure to state management approaches and modern web application architecture • Experience building internal tools, dashboards, administrative portals, or developer-facing applications using React is a plus • Ability to contribute to UI-facing platform capabilities when required and collaborate effectively in full-stack solution design
