Principal BIM Technician - Highways

Summary

Leads highway design and BIM workflows, creating CAD plans, profiles, and cross-sections while mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with Canadian standards.

  • Assisting CAD Technicians in technical analysis;
  • Analyse ground data and prepare base maps;
  • Prepare graphic representations of a parcel of land or a portion of road (plan, profile and section);
  • Annotate work to be done (barrier, border, pavement marking, etc.);
  • Preparation of a highway, roadway and detour path;
  • Plans and profiles, cross sections, typical sections and details
  • Temporary or permanent signage design;
  • Preparation of an installation slip;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies / Skills

  • The successful candidate is likely to be having above 15 years’ of highway work experience with consultancy firm or developer, International experience or Global design centre are an asset.
  • Must have strong abilities to work with BIM compliant CAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, projectwise, ACC and Microsoft Office;
  • Knowledge of Dynamo, Navis work clash analysis, infraworks, concept station is an asset.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at given time and mentor juniors and able to take up line management responsibilities
  • Understanding of Canadian standards and design practices are an asset

Desired Skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimum of supervision
  • Strong organization skills;
  • Good written and spoken communication skills and be fluent in English
  • Committed team player;
  • Cultural awareness

• Diploma in Civil;
• 8-10 years’ working experience on infrastructure projects and detail design of highways and drainage.
• Experience to work in/with other cultures.
• English spoken and written
• French spoken and written a plus
Desirable Skills
• Professional licencing within Canada is an asset;
• Solid understanding of other road design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measure, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design);
• Solid understanding of Ministry of Transportation, Canadian standards and design practices are an asset;
• Familiarity with Canadian regulatory environment and experience with approval processes is an asset.
