Principal Clinical Data Science Programmer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Clinical Data Science Programmer based in Canada.

This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced clinical data programming professional supporting complex clinical trial data environments.
The role focuses on developing, validating, and maintaining programming solutions across clinical data management systems, analytics, reporting, and external vendor data.
You will play a key role in ensuring high-quality data validation, review, transfer, and risk management outputs throughout the clinical trial lifecycle.
The position offers significant technical ownership, serving as a primary programming contact during study setup and ongoing maintenance.
You will collaborate closely with data managers, project managers, biostatisticians, and other cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
As a subject matter expert, you will mentor programmers, contribute to knowledge sharing, and provide technical guidance on complex programming activities.
The role also provides an opportunity to lead analytics initiatives, automation strategies, and process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.

• Develop, validate, and maintain programming solutions for clinical data management systems, including EDC platforms such as Rave and Veeva, as well as data validation, analytics, data review, risk management, and custom reporting outputs.
• Develop and maintain programs for managing external vendor trial data and perform data extracts and transfer programming from clinical data management systems.
• Collaborate with data managers, project managers, biostatisticians, and other stakeholders to integrate programming solutions effectively into clinical data management processes.
• Serve as a primary technical contact for programming-related questions during study setup and maintenance activities.
• Participate actively in internal and external meetings while providing constructive feedback to peers, team leads, and functional management.
• Mentor and support other programmers through ad hoc guidance, training, knowledge sharing, presentations, and development of training materials.
• Contribute as a subject matter expert to improvements in technical systems, processes, and operational practices.
• Stay current with advancements in programming languages, analytics approaches, and data management technologies to identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
• Provide final-level technical review and consultation for complex programming activities and deliver technical leadership for cross-study and program-level analytics initiatives.
• Lead the adoption of innovative analytical techniques, automation strategies, and process improvements across relevant clinical data programming activities.

Requirements:

• Bring 10+ years of experience programming for EDC systems, particularly Rave, with expertise in data validation outputs, data review and risk management outputs, custom reports, and clinical trial programming.
• Demonstrate data analytics experience using technologies such as SAS, SQL, R, and/or Python.
• Have proven experience leading, training, and mentoring junior programmers while providing technical guidance in complex environments.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work effectively within fast-paced, cross-functional teams.
• Bring excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality results.
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence outcomes effectively.
• Have advanced English communication, writing, and reading skills.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Life Sciences, or another relevant discipline.
