Job description:

This position is part of a Cloud Platform team responsible for managing the BFS cloud hosting environment encompassing the design, implementation, and support of cloud-based services, including extensive use of Infrastructure as Code and DevOps principles.

The principal cloud engineer takes a leading role in designing, implementing and supporting cloud-based technologies, primarily within a Microsoft Azure environment, but also including systems hosted within AWS. The responsibilities of this position include the management of Servers, Networking, Monitoring, Storage, Third party applications & Backups and working closely with software & data engineers to implement and support bespoke solutions built using cloud native technology.

This position will use DevOps & IAC tools including Terraform/Open TOFU, Ansible and GitHub Actions to automate the provisioning and maintenance of cloud infrastructure.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

Essential

• A tertiary qualification in IT
• A strong understanding of cloud platform services and significant hands-on experience in managing cloud platform infrastructure, ideally in an Azure environment.
• Experience with network design, configuration and management, ideally in an Azure environment.
• A strong understanding of cloud authentication and security principles.
• Experience with Terraform/Open Tofu and/or similar infrastructure as code tools.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git and GitHub
• A strong understanding of application monitoring, disaster recovery, backup and availability practices
• Familiarity with PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python and common platform automation scripting practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable

• Familiarity with Ansible.
• Experience in multi-cloud environments, especially Azure and AWS.
• Experience designing cloud platform solutions.
• Experience leading technology implementation projects.
• Experience using JIRA and Confluence.
• An understanding of database technologies including relational and NoSQL databases
• A passion for cloud platform solutions and a code-based approach to configuration.
• Familiarity with ICT industry service management processes: Service requests, incidents, change management, problem management, and related tools.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
