We are seeking an experienced Principal COBOL Developer to join a major Federal Government program delivering critical services to millions of Australians. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across complex mainframe development initiatives, driving the design, development and maintenance of enterprise-scale applications within a large and dynamic ICT environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale government systems while leading software development activities, mentoring technical teams and influencing long-term application strategy. You will be offered an initial 12-month contract, with extension options up to 24 months, and receive a rewarding hourly rate.

The successful Principal COBOL Developer will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Leading the design, development and maintenance of complex COBOL-based mainframe applications and systems.

• Providing technical leadership, mentoring and expert guidance to development teams across the software development lifecycle.

• Driving software planning, analysis, testing, deployment, maintenance and production support activities.

• Supporting solution design, technical assessments and continuous improvement initiatives across enterprise systems.

• Ensuring software solutions meet business requirements, security standards and quality expectations.

The successful Principal COBOL Developer will have:

• Extensive experience delivering and leading large-scale COBOL and mainframe development projects.

• Strong technical expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, SQL, JCL, VSAM, Endevor, TSO and ISPF.

• Demonstrated experience in software design, systems development management and providing specialist technical advice.

• Proven ability to lead development teams, establish technical standards and deliver high-quality solutions.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
