Principal Data and AI Architect
Recognised as one of the world's largest IT and business consulting firms, CGI has offices across Australia, supporting public and private sector clients to solve complex business challenges through technology.
The team
Day to day it doesn't feel that big. It's a good, opinionated crew that reviews each other's PR’s honestly and enjoys working together.
Big-firm backing, small-team feel. If that combination has been hard to find, this is the one we've built.
Why we’re hiring
Most companies have a data platform. Far fewer have one clean, governed and trusted enough to run real AI on. Closing that gap is the sharp end of Data & AI work today, and it's where most of our client engagements begin.
We're looking for an experienced Data & AI Architect who enjoys solving complex data challenges and is excited by where AI is heading.
This is a hands-on consulting role that embraces a Forward Deployed Engineering mindset, working closely with clients to understand their business challenges, shape practical solutions and stay involved through delivery. You’ll work alongside, clients, architects and engineering teams, bridging business and technology to turn ideas into outcomes.
FDE is a key capability we’re continuing to build within our Data and AI practice, alongside our focus on modern data platforms and AI.
Along the way, you'll mentor others, share your expertise and help grow CGI's Data & AI capability.
Flexible work is available including hybrid work from home in Sydney.
Your future role and responsibilities:
Design and deliver modern data platforms that provide the foundation for analytics and AI.
Build secure, scalable data solutions that clients can trust and teams enjoy working with.
Work closely with clients and delivery teams to solve complex business challenges and turn ideas into practical solutions.
Stay hands-on with the technology while providing technical leadership across architecture and delivery.
Contribute to client workshops, solution design and new opportunities that help grow our Data & AI practice.
Mentor colleagues, share your knowledge and help build a collaborative, high-performing team.
Experience required to be successful in this role:
Extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise data platforms that solve real business problems.
Strong hands-on experience with at least two of AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake or GCP. You don't need to know every platform to succeed in this role.
Experience building modern data solutions using Python, PySpark, SQL, dbt and DevOps practices.
Practical experience delivering AI solutions, including Generative AI, RAG, AI agents or related technologies or a genuine passion for continuing to grow in this space.
Strong consulting, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to guide conversations and the curiosity to ask the right questions.
A collaborative mindset and a passion for mentoring others, sharing knowledge and delivering great outcomes for clients.
Nice to have, but we won't hold it against you
Cloud platform or data technology certifications.
Experience with enterprise architecture practices.
AI or Machine Learning experience through delivery, research or continued learning.
Experience working across healthcare, insurance, financial services, utilities or the public sector.
What you can expect from us
Work on projects where modern data platforms and AI create genuine impact, not just another technology implementation.
Stay close to the technology while helping shape solutions, influence delivery and mentor talented people.
Join a team that values curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning as much as technical excellence.
Invest in your growth through certifications, emerging technologies and opportunities to work across a diverse range of clients.
