emagine is looking for: Principal Data Architect – Group Information Model and Data Architecture

emagine is looking for a Principal Data Architect for our client in the financial and information services sector. The client operates across four Nordic markets and is at the start of a multi-year transformation. Data from Oracle, Db2 and mainframe environments will be consolidated into a governed operational data platform on AWS, while existing systems continue to support the business.

This is the most senior architectural role in the programme. You will own the Group information model, domain model and data architecture. The core challenge is to distinguish genuine business differences between markets from historical inconsistencies, and to build a common model that endures regardless of technology choices. The programme is deliberately small: existing staff supported by a handful of senior specialists.

Responsibilities

• Define the Group information model: common business concepts, entities and relationships, and where local variation is required.

• Own the domain model, including bounded contexts, context maps, shared language and service boundaries based on DDD. The model is implemented through versioned data contracts, semantic models and domain services.

• Introduce anti-corruption layers between new domain contracts and legacy systems of record.

• Define how the model, governance and data contracts are implemented on the operational data platform, and contribute to platform decisions.

• Design the migration architecture, covering patterns, reconciliation, dependency sequencing and acceptance criteria for a gradual transition without a big-bang cutover.

• Design data governance: classification, lineage, information ownership, retention, access control and country-specific regulatory requirements.

• Set architecture principles, standards and review processes, and support delivery teams.

Requirements

• Principal-level experience in data architecture, information architecture or enterprise architecture within a regulated business.

• Experience establishing common information models across multiple markets, business lines or organisations.

• Practical experience with domain-driven design (bounded contexts, context maps, domain ownership).

• Experience designing and governing large-scale analytical or operational data platforms, such as Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric or equivalent.

• Experience with data migration or CDC from operational systems such as Oracle, Db2 or PostgreSQL.

• Experience treating schemas, data contracts and semantic models as versioned engineering artefacts.

• Solid understanding of GDPR, DORA and related governance requirements.

• Strong ability to build consensus across business and technology teams.

• Fluent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Experience from Nordic financial services, information services or other regulated data businesses.

• Domain knowledge in credit, risk, lending or decisioning.

• Modernisation of mainframe, Db2 or Oracle environments.

• ML/AI governance, feature stores or model lineage.

• Evaluation of public-cloud, sovereign-cloud or hybrid deployment models.

Technology landscape
