Principal Engineer (Electrical)
Engineers in this category are expected to be highly independent, efficient, knowledgeable (SME for the site) and competent in areas of automation, electrical, project management and reliability.
They coach and develop a team of technicians responsible for the smooth operation and maintenance of systems, equipment and processes to minimize downtime and ensure system and equipment performance comply with cGMP, EHS and GEP requirements and able to operate at optimal condition, meeting Engineering and business expectation.
These engineers oversee the work of teams. They are expected to do coaching and developing others, share accountability and collaborate with strong teamwork for continuously improvement.
Key Responsibilities
This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:
1) Project
Support organization operations on CAPA projects / engineering change modification execution to meet users’ requirement.
Collaborate with cross functional departments on CAPEX projects or change modification implementation.
Act as technical design authority for electrical scope on CAPEX projects; review/approve electrical designs, calculations and vendor technical submittals
Raise PIP/STP to secure funding for the CAPEX project
Work with contractors / external service providers for performance to meet project delivery.
Execute IQ & OQ phases of new projects and ensure proper hand over of completed project’s documents and drawings.
2) Compliance
Ensure the site is in compliance to Engineering Standard (pertaining to electrical)
Serve as site SME for electrical Engineering Standards and enforce technical governance; represent site in Global ES decision forums.
Liaise with Global SMEs to seek clarifications on ES requirements and share responses with site stakeholders for consistency.
Review Draft ES Comments. Ensure timely submission of comments on draft ES, track responses, and document final resolutions.
Approve deviations and manage escalation to Global SMEs for unresolved technical conflicts.
Track CAPAs from Gap Analysis. Initiate CAPAs for identified gaps, assign owners and timelines, monitor progress, and verify closure with documented evidence.
Ensure documentation for regulatory inspections related to electrical compliance is inspection ready.
3) Reliability
Ensure the reliability of plant electrical equipment and systems by implementing condition monitoring methods, conducting equipment measurements, and addressing repeated failures. Evaluate and analyze data and results, provide recommendations, and follow up with monitoring actions.
Identify in-process equipment/system conditions by collecting, classifying, analyzing, and
interpreting condition-based monitoring data (e.g., vibration, alignment, oil analysis, ultrasonic gauging).
Assess equipment reliability/acceptability by comparing performance against specifications.
Own lifecycle/obsolescence strategy and spare-parts stocking policy for critical electrical assets.
Oversee condition monitoring strategy, selection of diagnostic tools and KPI reporting for electrical assets.
4. Electrical
Provide engineering leadership for HV/LV protection coordination, earthing/grounding design and power quality solutions.
Maintain all electrically driver equipment to maximize plant availability and minimize disruption to the production process.
Provide effective solution to troubleshooting work on all electrically driven equipment.
Ensure all HT, LV and MV switchboards are in good conditions at all times so as to minimize disruption to the production process.
Provide engineering leadership for HV/LV protection coordination, earthing/grounding design and power quality solutions.
Lead specification and acceptance testing for major electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, MCCs, drives).
Ensure integration of electrical design with control systems and power/energy monitoring systems.
5. Quality
Familiar with Global SOP, Local SOP, Good Engineering Practice, cGMP to maintain quality standards. (Pertaining to electrical)
Ensure proper good documentation and record system to ensure quality assurance operations.
Ensure audit readiness by complying with effective standards, regulatory / statutory; GEP, GDP and cGMP requirement.
Lead responses to electrical findings in audits/inspections and own corrective/preventive action closure.
Ensure validation strategy alignment for electrical & control systems (including software lifecycle where applicable).
Maintain traceability between engineering changes and quality documentation (change control impact assessments).
6. Management
Own electrical CAPEX budget planning, prioritization of capital projects and ROI justification.
Mentor and develop electrical engineers/technicians; set competency standards and training plans.
Manage vendor selection, performance metrics and technical contracts for electrical scope.
7. Safety
Maintain safe and clean working environment by establishing and enforcing procedures, rules and regulations for all activities.
Comply with site and global EHS and Biosafety procedures.
All work activities are carried out safely and good housekeeping is maintained.
Ensure external service providers / contractors comply with the site safety rules and regulatory requirement.
8. Continuous Improvement
Contribute to continuous improvement by providing recommendation and initiative to promote sustainability.
Drive energy efficiency, power factor correction and sustainability initiatives related to electrical systems.
Promote standardization of electrical designs and work packages to reduce cost and complexity.
9. Others
Take ownership of technical decisions and escalate appropriately; act as site electrical SME in cross-functional leadership meetings.
Maintain stakeholder relationships across engineering, operations, quality and regulatory functions
Any other duties as assign by the supervisor.
We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goal.
Degree in electrical engineering, professional engineer (PE) preferred
Minimum of 15 years in electrical or any relevant field
Extensive electrical engineering expertise with the ability to provide technical authority and approve complex electrical system designs in a regulated manufacturing environment.
CAPEX project including the planning, execution, and optimization of large-scale engineering investments and asset performance initiatives.
Regulatory compliance, validation, and audit management experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industries.
