  • This role is for a Principal Engineering Designer in the GCC Civils, Australia Mining team based in Bengaluru. The position involves delivering design solutions and construction drawings for mining roads, junctions, and haul roads across a range of Australia Mining projects, including NPI and haul road schemes

  • The incumbent will be expected to play a proactive part in the design process and be active on a few projects at any given time.

  • He will function as a technical and tool specialist who develops and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. Seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design them.

  • The position will also involve internal client liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and financial control of projects when acting as a package project manager.

  • The incumbent will be expected to mentor, support, train and encouraging the young engineers and technicians to manage their own learning in order to develop their skills and improve performance.

  • As offshore technical lead he will be responsible for ensuring his projects are delivered to budget, program and technical standards and meet QA, CDM, Sustainability and HSE requirements

  • The position reports to a Civil Head and will be supported by a team of technical staff of various grades.

  • The role will also include day to day project management, resource management, carry out concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawings.

Key Competencies / Skills

Mandatory Skills

  • Proven experience in highway and development infrastructure design (pavement, alignment, drainage, utilities)
  • Strong proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D for modelling, complex junction design, corridor design, earthwork and ditch grading, tailgate corridor modelling, parking design, layby design and production of deliverables
  • Ability to lead technical delivery and manage multi-project teams within a design consultancy environment
  • Sound understanding of planning, design processes, technical approvals, and contract procedures
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings/models and ensuring compliance with standards
  • Hands-on capability in AutoCAD and MS Office tools (Word, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of Common Data Environments (CDE) such as Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360
  • Exposure to digital workflows, automation, and advanced tools (e.g., Dynamo, Subassembly Composer) as added advantage
  • Good understanding of project financials, bidding, and delivery management
  • Strong communication, team collaboration, and leadership skills

Desired Skills

  • Experience in Australian mining infrastructure projects, with knowledge of relevant design standards and codes (e.g., Austroads, Australia mining guidelines, along with DMRB / AASHTO exposure)
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver designs across all project stages in line with Australian mining engineering practices
  • Experience in directing and reviewing 3D design outputs using Autodesk Civil 3D (and/or exposure to 12D as an added advantage)
  • Proven capability in delivering design solutions compliant with codes, standards, and specifications, with willingness to develop deeper understanding of Australian mining standards
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, with ability to think laterally and develop innovative engineering solutions
  • Cultural awareness and experience working with or supporting Australian teams and clients
  • Awareness of climate change, sustainability, and decarbonisation principles in infrastructure design (e.g., low-carbon materials, efficient earthworks, PAS 2080 alignment)
  • Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in Civil Engineering with at least 12 years of design experience in case of graduates (10 years in case of post graduates)

  • Preference will be given to Chartered Engineer (or those nearing completion of their charter ship) with international professional institutions such as ICE, CIHT or have equivalent international professional qualification.

  • You will have substantial post graduate (or equivalent) experience and either have been awarded Chartered status (CEng, MICE, MIHT or MCIWEM), have equivalent international qualification, or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility.

  • You should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of and experience in highway and/or drainage design as well as a wide knowledge of the Development Industry.
