Job Description\:

As part of the independent assurance organisation you will be performing inspection and surveillance of the company's arrangements to provide an independent evaluation of fire safety performance on the Barrow site. You will provide assurance that fire safety risks are effectively identified, controlled and provide assurance that company arrangements are compliant with UK legislation. This will include oversight of facilities, plant, equipment, and support services, both on-board and on-site, to evaluate fire safety performance. The role requires clearly communicating inspection findings and conclusions to a wide range of stakeholders, including external regulators, senior leaders, and peers.

Core duties\:

  • Performing independent inspection and surveillance of fire safety on facilities and plant equipment, on-board and on-site to evaluate the fire safety performance
  • Conducting regulatory inspections of company management systems, with a focus on fire safety compliance
  • Inspecting and assessing the business’s capability to progress the submarine build and/or projects in the Site Redevelopment Programme to their relevant next stage through the ‘Hold Point Control’ process
  • Inspecting the business against the requirements of relevant legislation to assess the business' level of compliance
  • Assess the adequacy of fire prevention strategies and facility fire risk assessments for existing and new facilities
  • Communicating, both in writing and verbally, the conclusions of inspections and their findings to various stakeholders at all levels, including external regulators, board members, senior managers and business peers

Essential Skills\:

  • Competent fire safety professional with demonstrated working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation
  • Strong understanding of fire safety principles and fire risk assessment methodologies and the ability to evaluate fire risks in a high hazard environment
  • Ability to interpret engineering and safety case documentation
  • Experience of engaging and influencing senior management and external regulators
