Role Overview
Coupang is seeking a highly professional and driven Legal Counsel to join our team and support the rapid growth of our logistics operations in Taiwan, helping us meet evolving customer needs to wow our customers. This role is pivotal to Coupang Logistics Service (CLS), providing expert legal guidance to ensure compliance and manage risk in a dynamic, fast paced environment. You will collaborate closely with cross functional teams to facilitate the seamless integration of logistics assets—including fulfillment centers and transportation networks—and take ownership of the legal work associated with major strategic initiatives.
What You Will Do
- Legal & Regulatory Strategy
Monitor and analyze regulatory developments in Taiwan that impact Coupang Logistics Service (CLS), including transportation, labor and other relevant areas. Assess proposed changes, interpret legal implications, and proactively communicate impacts and recommended implementation steps to business teams, compliance, and other stakeholders. Provide guidance on implementation issues as needed. - Business Support & Development
Provide legal support for CLS’s strategic initiatives, including new service models, operational enhancements, and partnerships. Advise on legal risks and ensure alignment with company objectives. - Contract Management
Draft, review, negotiate, and amend contracts related to logistics assets and operations, including services, procurement, insurance, and carrier agreements. Offer guidance on standard agreements and terms to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. - Dispute Resolution
Manage and resolve disputes arising from logistics transactions, including fact-finding, legal analysis, and development of countermeasures. Seek constructive solutions that protect Coupang’s brand and business interests. - Governance & Compliance
Support governance initiatives to manage legal and regulatory risk effectively. Assist in building and maintaining compliance frameworks for logistics operations in accordance with Taiwanese laws and company standards. - General Legal Support
Provide professional legal advice to key stakeholders across functions, including compliance, government relations, operations and other key stakeholders ensuring timely and practical solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- Licensed attorney in Taiwan, or a foreign‑qualified lawyer with substantial experience practicing in Taiwan.
- Minimum of 5 years of post‑qualification legal experience, including experience either in a law firm or as in‑house counsel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Language Skills: Fluency in Mandarin; strong proficiency in English is preferred.
- Professional Experience: A combination of law firm and in-house legal experience; prior tenure with a leading law firm or a large corporation is highly preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of fulfillment services, logistics, and e‑commerce operations; experience in labor and employment law is an advantage.
- Analytical & Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to analyze complex legal issues and communicate clearly and concisely to non‑specialists, both in writing and verbally.
- Problem‑Solving & Judgment: Demonstrated sound judgment in developing and implementing practical, business‑oriented legal solutions that balance growth and risk in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Adaptability & Initiative: A self‑starter who thrives in dynamic settings, takes ownership, and proactively identifies and resolves issues.
- Collaboration: Strong ability to engage and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage workload through careful prioritization while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
