Principal Product Designer, Presence
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Product Designer, Presence based in the United States.
This is a systems-level design opportunity focused on shaping how people, creators, businesses, and communities establish their presence across a complex digital ecosystem.
You’ll define the experience architecture connecting identity, profiles, business presence, community context, discovery, navigation, and participation.
Rather than owning a single feature, you’ll establish durable models and interaction patterns that multiple product teams can build upon.
You’ll influence long-term product strategy while translating ambitious future-state concepts into practical, near-term execution.
The role offers significant visibility, partnering with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and Design.
You’ll use research, experimentation, AI-assisted design tools, and rapid prototyping to resolve complex ecosystem challenges and accelerate decision-making.
This is an opportunity for a highly experienced designer to make a large-scale product ecosystem feel simpler, more coherent, accessible, and trustworthy.
Accountabilities:
- Define the UX architecture and experience strategy for Presence across profiles, identity, business tools, community context, discovery, navigation, and emerging product surfaces.
- Translate broad organizational priorities into multi-year experience strategies, decision frameworks, and clear paths from the current product experience toward future-state visions.
- Establish shared experience models, interaction patterns, navigation approaches, and design principles that enable multiple teams to build cohesive experiences.
- Identify and resolve overlaps, gaps, inconsistencies, and competing approaches across product teams before they create fragmented user experiences or duplicated investments.
- Influence product strategy, priorities, and planning by partnering with senior Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Content Design, and Design leaders.
- Lead UX framing for complex, high-stakes ecosystem decisions, presenting recommendations, alternatives, risks, trade-offs, and success indicators to senior and executive stakeholders.
- Use AI-assisted design and coding tools to rapidly prototype future-state experiences, test system behavior, uncover edge cases, and support strategic decision-making.
- Establish a high bar for interaction design, information architecture, accessibility, trust, and overall system coherence across the product ecosystem.
- Mentor senior designers and contribute to the development of design practices, frameworks, and organizational capabilities.
- 10–12+ years of product design experience, including leadership of platform-scale or ecosystem-level initiatives spanning multiple product areas, preferably within consumer technology.
- A portfolio demonstrating Principal-level scope, including original product vision, systems architecture, sophisticated interaction design, executive influence, cross-product coherence, and measurable impact beyond an individual team or launch.
- Proven experience defining foundational product architecture, shared interaction models, design systems, or platform strategies adopted across multiple teams.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product priorities and executive decisions without relying on direct authority.
- Strong track record of translating long-term product vision into executable near-term launches, experiments, milestones, and organizational commitments.
- Expert-level interaction design and information architecture capabilities, with strong judgment around when to reuse existing patterns, evolve them, or introduce new ones.
- Fluency with AI-assisted design and coding workflows, particularly using prototypes and emerging tools to validate system behavior, explore possibilities, and inform strategic decisions.
- Strong understanding of user research, data, experimentation, accessibility, and technical constraints.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to align diverse teams around complex design decisions.
- Strategic, systems-oriented mindset with the ability to simplify highly complex ecosystems while maintaining a strong focus on user needs, trust, and business outcomes.
- Competitive base salary: $223,600–$313,000 USD, with final compensation determined by factors including skills, depth of experience, and relevant credentials.
- Equity: Eligibility for equity compensation in the form of restricted stock units.
- Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
