Principal Product Manager, HTS API Marketplace
Summary
Principal Product Manager to build Hopper’s 0-to-1 HTS API Marketplace, packaging travel lodging/cars capabilities into enterprise-grade APIs, pricing models, and partner integrations while driving revenue and developer experience.
About the role
We are seeking an exceptional Principal Product Manager to build the HTS API Marketplace — the commercial and developer-facing layer through which our enterprise partners access Hopper's lodging and car rental capabilities.
This is a true "0 to 1" role. You will be the person who defines the product: how capabilities are bundled and priced, how partners discover and integrate them, and how the marketplace evolves as a platform business. The underlying technical capabilities — connectivity orchestration, pricing and sorting, content mapping, extranet — are owned by dedicated capability teams. Your role is to work closely with these Product Managers (PMs) to understand, package, and commercially expose these capabilities as coherent, enterprise-grade API products.
We expect this PM to move fast and act with agility (scrappily). You must be comfortable with AI tools and vibe coding to prototype workflows, simulate APIs, and test partner experiences before handing off to engineering. The ideal candidate will always prioritize a prototype over a Product Requirements Document (PRD).
You will collaborate with engineering, data science, commercial, finance, and supply teams — and coordinate closely with other PMs across the organization — to take the marketplace from concept to a revenue-generating platform.
This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities
-
Define the HTS API Marketplace: structure, package, and price the capabilities of a portfolio including HTS Connect, search polygons, autocomplete, ranking, content and property mapping, room mapping, deduplication/auctions, pricing, extranet, taxes, and the custom deals engine.
-
Coordinate with capability PMs: understand the roadmap, constraints, and customization possibilities of the underlying technical systems, and translate them into externally consumable API products.
-
Manage the business model: make decisions between platform fees and variable fees, define the commission structure (take rate) per capability, enterprise packaging, and the custom agreement framework for large partners.
-
Build the developer and partner experience from scratch: API specifications, partner onboarding flows, documentation standards, sandbox environments, and integration tools that minimize time-to-value.
-
Use AI and rapid prototyping: test ideas quickly (API response simulations, partner portal prototypes) before committing engineering resources.
-
Establish the go-to-market (GTM) strategy: identify the right partners, sequence launches, and define commercial success criteria.
-
Manage the marketplace P&L: model and track Gross Booking Value (GBV), commission rates, and profitability per capability unit in partnership with the finance team.
An ideal candidate has:
-
7+ years of experience in product management, with at least one "0 to 1" product built (from concept to commercial launch).
-
Demonstrated experience in creating B2B or developer-facing marketplace products, including API product design and commercial packaging for enterprises.
-
AI-driven working method: you use LLMs and vibe coding as frontline tools for prototyping. You have already designed functional demos or Proofs of Concept (PoC) via AI.
-
Solid understanding of marketplace economics: commissions, supply-side incentives, demand-side optimization, and variable vs. platform business models.
-
Cross-team coordination ability: synthesize roadmaps and ensure alignment without directly managing the underlying engineering.
-
Experience with external enterprise partners: translate business needs into product requirements and manage expectations during multi-phase deployments.
-
Proficiency in SQL and large-scale transactional datasets.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing clear API and product documentation.
Assets:
-
Experience in travel commerce (lodging, cars, flights) or in the fintech or advertising sectors.
-
Knowledge of distribution systems (GDS, channel managers, OTA APIs).
-
Prior experience in engineering or data science.
This position requires proficiency in French and English. The successful candidate will be required to communicate and collaborate regularly with colleagues, managers, clients, suppliers, and business partners located outside of Quebec, as well as consult, prepare, and use documentation, systems, and communications in French and English. Knowledge of English is therefore necessary for the performance of the duties associated with the position as well as to meet operational requirements and client needs in an international business environment.
