Principal Product Manager/JV General Manager
We are seeking an experienced business and product leader to serve as General Manager of Microsoft Mobile Alliance Internet Services Co., Ltd. (MMAIS), Microsoft's Joint Venture (JV) company in China.
MMAIS plays a critical role in enabling Microsoft's Search business in China by operating the licensed entity that supports Bing China services, regulatory compliance, content moderation operations, datacenter operations, government-facing obligations, and other locally hosted online services. MMAIS operates under a unique governance and regulatory model and serves as a strategic bridge between Microsoft, regulatory stakeholders, business partners, and operational teams.
In addition to leading MMAIS, this role will own key Search product management initiatives in the region, including driving Bing growth opportunities in CJK markets and leading China AI Landing efforts to bring AI-powered Search experiences to market in compliance with local regulations.
This role requires a unique combination of executive leadership, business operations excellence, regulatory acumen, and product management expertise.
Responsibilities
MMAIS General Management
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for MMAIS operations and business performance.
- Serve as the primary executive accountable for MMAIS governance, operational excellence, compliance, and business outcomes.
- Partner closely with Microsoft leadership, CELA, Finance, HR, Procurement, and external stakeholders to ensure effective operation of the JV.
- Manage relationships with government agencies, regulators, JV partners, and other key external stakeholders.
- Oversee maintenance of critical licenses, including ICP and other regulatory approvals required to operate Microsoft online services in China.
- Ensure high-quality execution of content moderation, compliance operations, and regulatory response processes.
- Drive operational excellence across infrastructure, datacenter operations, vendor management, procurement, finance, and workforce planning.
- Lead organizational planning, budgeting, and operational reviews to ensure sustainable and efficient business operations.
- Act as the escalation point for critical regulatory, operational, and business risks.
CJK Search Product Management
- Own and drive Search growth strategy for CJK markets.
- Identify opportunities to increase Bing adoption, engagement, and usage across priority markets.
- Lead China AI Landing initiatives and collaborate with global and regional teams to bring AI-powered Search experiences into the China market.
- Define product strategy, roadmap, business requirements, and success metrics for regional Search initiatives.
- Partner with engineering, data science, marketing, business development, and compliance teams to execute product priorities.
- Evaluate competitive trends, market opportunities, user needs, and AI innovations to influence product direction.
- Represent regional customer and market requirements within the broader Search organization.
Leadership
- Build alignment across diverse stakeholders and functions.
- Drive accountability and execution across complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with senior executives, government representatives, business partners, and employees.
- Foster a culture of compliance, operational excellence, customer obsession, and business impact.
Qualifications
Required
- Significant leadership experience managing complex business operations, preferably in highly regulated industries or environments.
- Strong executive presence and exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage senior leaders, government agencies, and external partners.
- Proven track record of driving business performance and operational excellence.
- Experience leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives with measurable business impact.
- Deep understanding of product management fundamentals, including strategy, customer insight, prioritization, roadmap planning, and execution.
- Strong analytical and business judgment skills.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and influence across organizational boundaries.
Preferred
- Experience in Search, AI, Internet, or cloud-based products.
- Strong understanding of generative AI products and emerging AI ecosystem trends.
- Familiarity with China's regulatory environment for online services and AI products.
- Experience working with international and cross-cultural teams.
- Prior General Manager, business leader, or senior product leadership experience.
