The Role

SimplePractice is looking for an experienced Principal Product Manager to own the vision, strategy, and execution for Payments — one of the most critical and highest-leverage parts of our platform. Payments touches nearly every practitioner and client who uses SimplePractice, spanning client billing and card processing, practitioner payouts, insurance payouts and new opportunities in embedded finance and monetization. This role will define what "great" looks like across that full payments experience, balancing reliability and compliance with growth and innovation, and will serve as the company's foremost expert and internal evangelist for payments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end payments vision and multi-year strategy, spanning core processing (client charges, card-on-file, payouts to practitioners), insurance billing and claims payments, and emerging monetization opportunities such as embedded finance and financing products
  • Own ongoing vendor management and partner relationships across PSPs, processors, and other payments partners, including performance management, contract renewals, and escalations
  • Develop a comprehensive point of view on the payments and fintech landscape — processors, networks, acquiring/issuing partners, and embedded finance providers — to inform build/buy/partner decisions and identify strategic partnership or investment opportunities
  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert and evangelist for payments, championing practitioner and client needs across the Product Leadership Team and ensuring payments considerations are built into new products from day one
  • Drive a rigorous, data-driven roadmap grounded in market research and quantitative/qualitative insight, balancing reliability, risk, and compliance requirements against growth and revenue opportunities
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure payments products meet regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI DSS, card network rules, money transmission, and healthcare billing regulations) while remaining fast to iterate on
  • Define pricing, monetization, and take-rate strategy for payments products in partnership with Finance and Business Operations
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Customer Success on go-to-market strategy, adoption, and launch of new payments capabilities, and support account management conversations with large or complex accounts
  • Apply a rigorous, data-driven approach to validating new payment offerings — using prototypes, pilots, and customer feedback to de-risk new ventures before scaling
  • Mentor and raise the bar for product craft across the broader PM team, particularly around platform thinking, risk-aware product design, and cross-functional execution

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including significant, hands-on ownership of payments, embedded finance, or fintech products at scale
  • Deep understanding of the payments ecosystem — processors, card networks, acquiring/issuing, settlement, payouts, disputes/chargebacks — and comfort operating in a regulated environment
  • Direct experience running formal vendor RFP processes and managing PSP or payments partner relationships, including contract negotiation and ongoing performance management
  • Proven track record incubating and scaling new product lines, from discovery and validation through adoption and commercialization
  • Customer-obsessed product leader with a demonstrated track record of using quantitative and qualitative insight to drive roadmap and prioritization decisions
  • A data-driven mindset, comfortable using metrics to define success, inform trade-offs, and demonstrate business value
  • Strong risk and compliance instincts — able to balance product velocity against regulatory, security, and trust requirements
  • Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; able to influence senior leaders and inspire teams across Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and Go-to-Market
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience in SaaS, vertical SaaS, or healthtech is a plus

Benefits

We offer a competitive benefits program including:

  • Medical, dental, vision, life & disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Flexible Time Off (FTO), wellbeing days, paid holidays, and summer Fridays
  • Mental health resources
  • Paid parental leave & Backup Care
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
