Principal Python Software Engineer
Summary
Principal engineer at exchange operator Cboe designing and building reliable, testable Python systems supporting trading operations: leading complex projects, mentoring developers, leading debugging, and sharing production support and incident response. Core stack is Python, SQL, and Linux, with PostgreSQL/Snowflake, Django/Flask/FastAPI, Kafka, and Airflow as preferred extras.
You will design and build reliable and testable Python systems supporting trading operations. You will lead complex projects, coordinate developers across systems and regions, research and implement promising technologies, mentor developers, guide debugging efforts, and participate in production support, incident response, post-mortem analysis, and follow-up actions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business development and sales teams to develop new products and features
- Design and build highly reliable and testable Python systems
- Lead complex projects and coordinate developers across multiple systems
- Meet with team members and management to review project progress and operational efficiency
- Research and implement promising technologies
- Mentor developers worldwide when necessary
- Lead debugging of complex engineering and operational problems
- Provide production support through the support rota and incident management processes
- Contribute to post-mortem analyses and follow-up actions
Requirements
- Expert Python knowledge
- Commitment to writing testable and maintainable code
- Advanced SQL proficiency
- Deep Linux knowledge
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
- Experience with TDD, BDD, or other testing methodologies highly preferred
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL and Snowflake preferred
- Familiarity with Django, Flask, or FastAPI preferred
- Familiarity with Apache Kafka preferred
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow preferred
- Familiarity with Java preferred
- Experience in relevant financial areas such as market data, order management, algorithmic trading, financial systems integration, or compliance preferred
