Principal, Security Engineer
Summary
The Principal Security Engineer will lead the design, modernization, and operation of Coupang's large-scale enterprise identity and access management (IAM) infrastructure. This role focuses on Active Directory, cloud identity services, and automation to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable authentication across a global environment.

Role Overview
Coupang is investing in the next generation of identity and access management capabilities that support one of the largest and most complex technology environments in the region. We are looking for an experienced Security Engineer to help modernize our enterprise directory services and identity infrastructure while improving reliability, scalability, and security across a global environment.
This is a highly technical engineering role focused on the design, implementation, and operation of large-scale identity platforms. You will work on modernizing Active Directory and cloud identity services, strengthening authentication and authorization frameworks, and building foundational capabilities that support thousands of users and critical business systems.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Active Directory with strong engineering ffundamentals and a track record of building and operating complex identity platforms in large enterprise environments.
What You Will Do
- Lead the Engineering design and build-out of Coupang’s enterprise directory services and identity platform modernization.
- Design, build, and operate large-scale Active Directory environments spanning multiple domains and geographies.
- Drive improvements in reliability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence across identity infrastructure.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, and platform teams to develop the next generation of IAM capabilities.
- Engineer solutions that strengthen authentication, directory services, access management, and identity lifecycle processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex directory service, authentication, and integration issues as the highest level of technical escalation.
- Develop automation and tooling to simplify operations, improve scalability, and reduce manual effort.
- Evaluate and integrate modern identity technologies while supporting a hybrid environment that includes Active Directory, cloud identity providers, and internally developed solutions.
- Contribute to the development of custom IAM capabilities, services, and user experiences that support evolving business requirements.
- Help establish architectural direction and technical standards for enterprise identity platforms.
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of hands-on experience in Identity and Access Management, Directory Services, or Infrastructure Security engineering.
- Deep expertise in administering, engineering, and troubleshooting Microsoft Active
- Directory and Entra in large enterprise environments.
- Experience designing, migrating, or modernizing complex multi-domain Active Directoryenvironments.
- Strong understanding of LDAP, Kerberos, Group Policy, DNS, authentication protocols, and directory service architecture.
- Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical identity infrastructure at scale.
- Strong experience in building continuous controls around AD, Entra and IAM platforms.
- Strong scripting or software development skills in Python, Java, or similar languages.
- Experience automating operational processes and building engineering solutions rather than relying solely on commercial products.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex identity, authentication, and infrastructure reliability challenges.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading or significantly contributing to enterprise-scale Active Directory transformation programs.
- Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD), Okta, or other enterprise identity platforms.
- Experience integrating IAM solutions with cloud and hybrid environments.
- Experience with identity governance, privileged access management, or access lifecycle management platforms.
- Familiarity with open-source technologies and custom platform development.
- Experience operating identity services in global, multi-region environments.
- Strong understanding of security architecture, zero trust principles, and modern authentication technologies.
