Principal Software Engineer, Fintech Agentic AI
Intuit's Fintech Agentic AI program rests on two bets: making every fintech capability safely invocable by customer-facing agents, and making Fintech's codebases legible and safe for coding agents to contribute to (Repo & Agent Contribution Readiness — the Repo Standard, cross-repo dependency graphs, and agent-authored PR pipelines). This already powers the QuickBooks Connector on Claude and ChatGPT, and our own Intuit Intelligence capability.
We're hiring a Principal Software Engineer to own the multi-year technology vision and strategy for agent-readiness across Fintech — both bets, end to end. This is domain ownership: the architecture underlying capability exposure and repo contribution readiness must integrate cleanly with each other and with adjacent Intuit platforms, and must align with Intuit's company-wide technology strategy, not just Fintech's roadmap. This role solves the hard, ambiguous problems no one has assigned yet, sets principled technology direction with multi-year consequences, and represents Intuit's agent-readiness approach both internally across orgs and externally in the industry.
Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technology vision and strategy for Fintech's agent-readiness domain — capability exposure and repo contribution readiness as one integrated architecture, aligned with Intuit's company-wide platform and AI strategy
- Solve end-to-end, hard problems that span both efforts and fill gaps no team currently owns: the seams between capability-level agent readiness (Capability Spec, Unified Fintech API, MCP tools) and repo-level agent readiness (dependency mapping, agent-authored PRs, agent-driven testing)
- Champion capability and standard reuse across Fintech and adjacent Intuit domains, driving clarity of ownership so agent-readiness investments compound instead of fragmenting again
- Make technology decisions steeped in clear, durable principles with long-term impact to Intuit — guiding teams on which decisions are one-way vs. two-way doors, unblocking through fast, well-documented calls rather than long debates
- Drive and guide work spanning multiple teams (Fintech API, Agent-Ready Enabler, and dependent teams outside the org) developing solutions new to Intuit or to the industry — setting technical direction other Staff and Sr Staff engineers execute against
- Represent Intuit's fintech agent-readiness strategy to org and company leadership, Product, and Compliance; contribute externally through publications, conference talks, or industry standards work on agentic protocols and repo-contribution safety
- Actively invest in talent — mentoring and calibrating Staff/Sr Staff engineers, raising the technical bar across the domain, and building the pipeline of technical leaders who can carry this vision forward
Qualifications
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of owning technology strategy for a domain (not just executing within one)
- Demonstrated Principal-level leadership: setting multi-year technical vision and strategy across multiple teams or a company-wide initiative, with technology decisions that carry long-term consequences for Intuit
- Deep background in API platforms and agent-readiness infrastructure — OpenAPI/REST design, schema-driven codegen, MCP and agentic tool-calling, and repo-level contribution tooling (dependency graphs, agent-driven testing, contribution readiness standards)
- Experience defining architecture that integrates across domain boundaries — not just within a single team's or org's surface
- Experience driving company-wide technical standards or platform strategy that other orgs adopt, ideally with external visibility (publications, conference talks, patents, or industry standards contributions)
- Strong grounding in fintech domains (payments, lending, payroll, wallet) and the safety/compliance requirements of agent-initiated financial actions and agent-authored code
- Track record of developing technical leaders — mentoring Staff/Sr Staff engineers and actively participating in calibration, hiring, and talent review processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to build alignment with company leadership, engineering, product, and compliance stakeholders, and to influence outside direct authority
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
