As a Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as a senior individual contributor shaping the architecture and technical standards of critical payment and transaction-processing systems.
You will design and deliver secure, scalable, production-grade solutions that support high-volume licensing, registration, and reservation transactions.
The role combines hands-on engineering with broad technical influence across multiple product and engineering domains.
You will tackle ambiguous, cross-cutting challenges and turn them into clear technical strategies, reusable capabilities, and reliable systems.
Working closely with senior technical leaders and cross-functional teams, you will raise engineering standards through strong technical judgment and execution.
You will also leverage AI-assisted development and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, modernization, and delivery quality.
Your work will ultimately help make outdoor experiences more accessible while supporting the systems that enable sustainable resource management.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the architecture, design, development, testing, and delivery of complex software solutions that meet functional, performance, security, and scalability requirements.
- Translate ambiguous business and product needs into practical technical strategies, plans, and production-ready implementations.
- Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code while taking ownership of the most complex and business-critical components.
- Establish and promote technical standards, engineering best practices, coding conventions, and disciplined CI/CD practices across teams.
- Conduct architecture and code reviews as a senior peer contributor, influencing technical decisions through expertise, reasoning, and quality of execution rather than formal authority.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, scalability concerns, and architectural challenges early and drive them toward resolution.
- Design, build, and maintain secure, PCI-compliant payment and transaction-processing systems supporting purchases across licensing, registration, and reservation platforms.
- Integrate with third-party payment gateways and processors while ensuring transaction integrity, reconciliation accuracy, resilience, and scalability.
- Partner with product, architecture, QA, DevOps, and compliance stakeholders to ensure high-quality end-to-end delivery and adherence to payment-industry regulations and security standards.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, engineering tools, and AI-assisted development practices to improve modernization, efficiency, and developer productivity.
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers through technical guidance, design and code reviews, and hands-on example without direct management responsibility.
- Contribute across Licensing, Registrations, Reservations, Payments, and emerging product initiatives as business priorities evolve, quickly adapting to new technical domains.
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including demonstrated experience setting technical direction across multiple teams or complex systems.
- Extensive fintech experience is required, with hands-on experience building, maintaining, or evolving payment and transaction-processing software.
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET, with experience developing robust and scalable production applications.
- Front-end development experience with Angular, React, or Blazor.
- Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Experience with relational databases including SQL Server or PostgreSQL, as well as ORMs such as Entity Framework.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices and tools, including GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
- Practical knowledge of payment gateways and processors, transaction reconciliation, and PCI DSS is highly valued.
- Ability to design secure, resilient, and scalable systems while balancing technical quality, business priorities, and delivery timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments, independently identify the right problems to solve, and turn broad requirements into actionable technical solutions.
- Strong communication, technical leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence experienced engineers without relying on formal authority.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, contributions to open-source projects, or technical writing through blogs or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong judgment around AI-assisted development, including the ability to use AI tools effectively while validating and critically reviewing their output.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder and able to work within the continental United States.
- Compensation range of $150,000–$170,000, with final level and salary determined based on expertise, qualifications, and prior experience.
