The Principal Software Engineer leads the architecture and development of digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) platforms for nature-based climate solutions. The role involves hands-on .NET development, cloud-native system design, and technical leadership to build scalable, secure, and audit-ready carbon market software.
The Principal Software Engineer - Digital MRV Platform Engineering leads the architecture, development, and integration of digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (dMRV) solutions for Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, the role translates climate and carbon verification requirements into scalable digital products aligned with TÜV SÜD's climate assurance platforms. As a principal-level technical leader, the role drives software engineering excellence, platform strategy, and long-term technology roadmap development.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate NbS, carbon market, regulatory, and assurance requirements into scalable digital MRV product and software solutions.
- Lead the architecture and delivery of end-to-end dMRV workflows, ensuring transparency, traceability, auditability, and verification integrity.
- Design reusable technology components and data models that support evolving carbon standards, methodologies, and registry integrations.
- Define and drive the technical architecture, roadmap, and platform strategy for NbS dMRV capabilities within TÜV SÜD ecosystems.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across .NET development, APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and cloud-based applications.
- Establish engineering standards, architecture governance, and best practices while managing technical debt and platform sustainability.
- Develop and integrate climate data solutions leveraging geospatial, Earth Observation, remote sensing, IoT, and external data sources.
- Evaluate and apply emerging technologies, including AI/ML and advanced analytics, to enhance automation, data quality, and verification efficiency.
- Lead prototyping and innovation initiatives, transitioning successful concepts into secure, scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Mentor and develop engineering capabilities through technical coaching, design reviews, knowledge sharing, and recruitment support.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver prioritized roadmaps, manage risks, and drive operational excellence.
- Embed security, privacy, data governance, compliance, and responsible AI practices throughout solution design, delivery, and operations.
Key Requirement
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience, including architecture and delivery of complex platforms or distributed systems.
- Strong hands-on expertise in .NET and modern web application/service development.
- Proven experience designing secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable SaaS platforms, APIs, integrations, and data-intensive solutions.
- Solid understanding of modern architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven, asynchronous, and modular architectures.
- Deep experience with cloud-native technologies, containers, Kubernetes, serverless services, and infrastructure automation.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, including SDLC, automated testing, CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, and production operations.
- Ability to translate complex business and domain requirements into effective technical solutions and delivery roadmaps.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional, and globally distributed teams, with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience or strong interest in climate technology, carbon markets, dMRV/MRV, geospatial or Earth Observation data, AI/ML applications, and regulated or assurance-driven environments.
