Principal Specialist - Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive
We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.
- Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience.
- Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence.
- Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment.
About the Role
In this role, you will report to the Manager – Cloud Operations. As a Principal Specialist - Cloud, you will lead architecture and engineering across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), defining secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud platforms and reference architectures for the Corporate division. You will partner closely with infrastructure and development teams to accelerate delivery through AI-enabled capabilities and automation, while ensuring strong GRCSP (governance, risk, compliance, security, and privacy) by design.
What You Will Do
• Own and evolve multi-cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP), including target-state designs, reference architectures, and platform standards.
• Drive cloud engineering decisions across providers: landing zones, networking, identity, compute, storage, observability, resiliency, and service catalog patterns.
• Act as a business liaison for cloud: translate business objectives into technical roadmaps, and align stakeholders across infrastructure, application development, and security teams.
• Work with business leaders and teams in executing business related projects primarily with the focus on technical and cloud infrastructure and implementing new services and functionalities as required by business projects.
• Enable AI and modern platform capabilities (e.g., data/AI services, MLOps patterns, secure access to foundation models) in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
• Lead automation strategy and implementation for Cloud Operations using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD (e.g., Terraform/CloudFormation/Bicep), policy-as-code, and self-service workflows.
• Design and enforce GRCSP guardrails: governance frameworks, risk management, compliance requirements, security baselines, and privacy controls across all cloud platforms.
• Establish cloud security architecture patterns (identity, encryption, network segmentation, secrets management) and partner with SOC, GRC, vulnerability management, and application teams to remediate findings.
• Lead architecture reviews for new initiatives and major changes; ensure designs meet non-functional requirements (availability, performance, security, compliance, operability, and cost).
• Drive cost management and FinOps practices: tagging/chargeback models, unit economics, rightsizing, commitment programs, and architectural tradeoffs.
• Partner with IT Operations on reliability and incident learnings (post-incident reviews, problem management), driving platform improvements and preventive controls.
• Create and maintain cloud standards, blueprints, and documentation; provide guidance, workshops, and coaching to engineering teams to accelerate adoption.
• Define and track a cloud architecture roadmap and key outcomes (security posture, compliance adherence, automation coverage, platform reliability, and cost efficiency) across the Corporate division.
• Evaluate cloud services, security tooling, and automation platforms; make recommendations and guide implementation with a focus on standardization and reuse.
• Manage infrastructure, network, and security services such as VPC/VNet, VWAN/TGW, WAF, ELB/AppGw, IAM, S3, EC2, EBS, and other AWS, Azure, and GCP native cloud services.
• Manage multiple, simultaneous, fast-paced projects including infrastructure incident management, installations, patching, upgrades, etc.
• Collaborate with the Cloud Operations team and multiple infrastructure, security, and application teams to deploy and manage cloud resources in a multi-cloud environment.
• Build and report cloud posture metrics (GRCSP controls, audit readiness, security remediation progress, cost optimization, and automation maturity) to support decision-making.
• Collaborate with a diverse, globally distributed team and communicate architecture decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
What You Need to Be Successful
• Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 7+ years of experience in cloud engineering and architecture, with proven delivery on at least two major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Strong knowledge of cloud and platform architecture fundamentals: networking, DNS, load balancing, identity and access management, compute/container platforms, storage, and resilience patterns.
• Hands-on experience designing for GRCSP: governance and policy controls, risk management, security architecture, privacy-by-design, and audit/compliance readiness in cloud environments.
Bonus Points if You Have
• Proficiency with AI integration with automation and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep) and CI/CD practices; scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or similar) preferred.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to bridge business needs and technical execution across infrastructure, development, and security teams.
