Principal Systems Design Authority - Simulation & Training

We have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Design Authority within Simulation & Training (S&T) at our site in Broad Oak. As Principal Systems Design Authority you will provide technical oversight and people management over a range of products within the Simulation and Training domain. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior technical leadership role providing engineering direction on large, complex programmes within the Maritime Simulation and Training domain.

Your main responsibilities as Principal Systems Design Authority - Simulation & Training will include\:

• Apply and champion the Systems Engineering and Software Engineering principles of ISO 15288 and ISO 12207 to the design of Simulation Systems and/or Training Design products through the entire engineering lifecycle

• Follow our Engineering framework to produce Certificates of Design for Simulation Systems and/or Training Design products. Act as the technical focus point for Lifecycle Management and external reviews, preparing and presenting technical aspects to those involved as required.

• Lead study proposals, including report-writing & presentations. Support Research and Development (R&D) initiatives. Support winning business and bid management activities.

• Deputise for the S&T Head of Engineering & Technology to approve other SDAs’ Design Certification artefacts, Chair Engineering Reviews and attend Engineering Council on behalf of Simulation & Training

• Provide authoritative guidance to others relating to area of expertise and line manage a small group of S&T System Design Authorities and Safety Engineers

Your skills and qualifications\:

• Expert in principles and approaches underpinning design and development activities and demonstrates expert understanding, knowledge and experience of Systems Engineering with systems thinking and the application of holistic approaches to complex problems

• Be expertly familiar with appropriate Systems Engineering and Software Engineering standards (e.g. ISO 15288 and ISO 12207 respectively)

• Experience of leading large scale complex Simulation Systems and/or Training Design

• A degree-level qualification in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline and Achieved Chartered Engineer status or equivalent level of capability

• Experience of designing software-intensive systems is highly desirable

• A detailed knowledge and understanding of the Naval equipment and training domain and of the approaches available to meet training needs is desirable.
