Niyam IT is seeking a Principal Technical Architect to join our team. The Principal Technical Architect will lead the design and delivery of next-generation, AI-powered digital solutions across our web and mobile platforms. This role serves as the technical authority at the intersection of full stack engineering and applied artificial intelligence, driving the architecture, development, and adoption of intelligent capabilities that enhance both customer experiences and developer productivity. The ideal candidate is an experienced technology leader with deep expertise in modern full stack application development, cloud-native architectures, and AI-enabled solutions, including virtual assistants, conversational AI, intelligent search and recommendations, accessibility features, and AI-assisted software development. As a Principal Technical Architect, you will establish technical direction, mentor engineering teams, and partner across the organization to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions from concept through production using modern Cloud CI/CD and DevSecOps practices. This is a hybrid position, and will require onsite to the client location in Northern VA up to 3-4 days/week.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of full-stack web and mobile applications, guiding features from architecture and implementation through testing and production deployment.
- Drive the integration of AI and machine learning capabilities into customer-facing applications, including virtual assistants, conversational chatbots, AI-powered search and recommendations, accessibility enhancements, and other intelligent user experiences.
- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices, leveraging AI tools for code generation, testing, debugging, refactoring, and developer productivity across the engineering team.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, establishing best practices for full-stack development, software architecture, code quality, and AI-enabled application design.
- Collaborate with product, UX/UI, data science, and cross-functional stakeholders to define, prioritize, and deliver innovative AI-powered solutions that meet business and customer needs.
- Oversee software quality through comprehensive unit, integration, and automated testing while ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable deployments using Cloud-based CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and development methodologies, driving continuous improvement and innovation across the software development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to successfully complete a federal background investigation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree).
- Must be available to work onsite in Northern VA.
- 10+ years of professional full stack software development experience, including recent, hands-on work across frontend, backend, and API layers.
- Demonstrated experience with two or more of the following: Flutter, Angular (2+), Spring Boot, Java, Python (Django), JavaScript/TypeScript, Dart, native iOS (Swift), or native Android.
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production applications (for example, chatbots or virtual assistants, recommendation or search features, computer vision or NLP-based accessibility tooling, or AI-assisted development pipelines).
- Working knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle SQL, and RESTful and/or SOAP API integration in a multi-system environment.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum software delivery, CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployment (Kubernetes), and automated testing frameworks (for example, Selenium).
- Familiarity with federal software delivery standards, including Section 508 accessibility, DevSecOps practices, and IT security fundamentals (encryption, PII handling, vulnerability remediation).
Preferred Skills
- One or more current AI/ML certifications, such as AWS Certified Machine Learning, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer, or a recognized generative AI/LLM engineering certification.
- Prior experience supporting federal agencies.
- Experience with chatbot or conversational AI frameworks (Python backend, React frontend, Angular-based training dashboard).
- SAFe Practitioner, Certified Scrum Developer, or equivalent Agile certification.
- Experience with Firebase, Gradle, or mobile app store deployment pipelines (Apple Enterprise/Developer, Google Play).
