On a day-to-day basis, the role balances strategic leadership with operational enablement. You will work closely with squads to identify capability gaps, remove delivery impediments and ensure teams are adopting effective Quality Assurance and Test Automation practices.

You will coach individuals and teams, facilitate chapter activities, guide the implementation of automated testing approaches, and support the integration of testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices. You will champion a shift-left approach to quality, helping teams identify defects earlier, improve delivery confidence and achieve better customer outcomes.


You will establish a thriving community of practice that promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.


Through regular engagement with teams, you will foster consistent standards, encourage innovation and support the adoption of emerging practices and technologies, including modern quality engineering approaches.


The role has a strong focus on governance, measurement and continuous improvement. You will define quality standards and metrics, monitor testing effectiveness and provide insights that inform strategic decision making. You will contribute to broader engineering initiatives, ensuring accessibility, performance, security and reliability considerations are embedded within delivery practices.

About you:

  • 5+ years experience working in a hands-on Quality Assurance Test Lead role.
  • 5+ years experience working in Test Automation, with demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and maintaining a Test Automation Strategy
  • You have hands-on experience in designing and coding tests (regression, unit, etc).
  • You have demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring technologists with differing levels of knowledge and experience in test automation, developing skills and capabilities in a supportive and positive environment'
  • You are self-motivated and action-oriented, with strong experience working across multiple squads, championing MVP requirements.
  • You can support individuals and teams in the end-to-end test process to leverage test automation capabilities to deliver efficiencies and customer outcomes to the desired level of quality, within expected timeframes.
  • You can define and monitor quality metrics and reporting to drive data-informed improvement and decision making, and champion automated quality controls within CI/CD pipelines to improve delivery confidence and reduce risk.
  • You drive adoption of accessibility, performance, security and non-functional testing practices.
  • You evaluate emerging technologies, tooling and capabilities to improve testing effectiveness and efficiency.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • Extensive experience in both front end and backend test automation with tools such as Selenium in Java, JUnit, PyUnit, TestNG, Playwright, Cucumber, Maven, Postman, SoapUI, RestAssured and PHPUnit
  • Strong experience in Test Automation planning, co-ordination, and execution within an Agile environment
  • Previous experience integrating with continuous delivery and integration pipelines
  • Knowledge and experience in testing within AWS cloud architecture
  • Strong experience in managing all QA activities, including QA practice framework, Testing Strategy, QA Planning.
  • Experience with relational databases, programming languages, and various operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows)
  • Experience with performance, load, accessibility and security testing
  • Experience in planning, reviewing and estimating test plans at both project and organisational levels in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Ability to provide product quality guidance across all aspects (including functional, non-functional, technical) of the Test Automation proposition
  • ISTQB certification (Foundation, Agile extension, Test Automation) is desirable.
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in the Government sector is desirable.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $154,231 base plus superannuation
