Private Swim Instructor

The YMCA of Indiana County is looking for a Private Swim Instructor to provide safe, effective, and individualized swim instruction to YMCA members and program participants. This position teaches swimming skills, water safety, and stroke development while creating a positive and supportive environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The Private Swim Instructor will work one-on-one with participants to help build swimming skills, confidence, and comfort in the water. Instructors will adapt lessons based on each swimmer’s needs, provide encouragement and feedback, and maintain a safe aquatic environment that reflects the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Teamwork.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individualized private swim lessons based on participant goals, skill level, and abilities.

  • Teach proper swimming techniques, water safety skills, and confidence in the water.

  • Maintain constant supervision of participants while in and around the pool area.

  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, encouragement, and constructive feedback.

  • Adjust teaching methods to meet individual learning styles and needs.

  • Monitor participant progress and communicate updates with parents/guardians as appropriate.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized teaching environment.

  • Follow YMCA pool rules, safety procedures, and aquatics policies.

  • Maintain professional boundaries with participants and families.

  • Communicate scheduling concerns, incidents, accidents, or participant concerns with the Aquatics leadership team.

  • Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.

  • Support a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all YMCA participants.
