Process Engineer I
Position Summary
The Process Engineer I supports manufacturing operations by developing, improving, and sustaining production processes throughout the sheet metal fabrication operation. This entry-level engineering position partners closely with Production, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and Maintenance to improve safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.
The Process Engineer I assists with troubleshooting manufacturing issues, implementing engineering changes, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across laser cutting, forming, welding, finishing, and assembly operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Support
- Support daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production and quality issues
- Assist in developing efficient manufacturing methods for new and existing products
- Evaluate production processes and recommend improvements that increase throughput and reduce waste
- Support fabrication processes including:
- Fiber laser cutting
- Press brake forming
- Welding (MIG, TIG, robotic)
- Hardware insertion
- Grinding and finishing
- Mechanical assembly
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions for production issues
Engineering Documentation
- Create and maintain manufacturing routings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Develop and revise work instructions and standard operating procedures
- Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
- Maintain engineering documentation within the ERP system
Product & Customer Support
- Review customer drawings for manufacturability (DFM)
- Assist with prototype builds and first article production
- Support product launches and engineering transfers into production
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to resolve technical questions
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives
- Analyze production metrics to identify opportunities for improved efficiency
- Recommend tooling, fixture, or process improvements that reduce cycle time and improve quality
Quality & Compliance
- Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Assist with nonconforming material investigations
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company quality standards and customer specifications
- Support ISO 9001 quality system requirements
