Job Purpose

The Commodity Buyer is responsible for the assigned auto part’s piece price, investment, and annual cost reduction, all of which have significant impact on HDMA financial performance. Establishment of part and supplier SAs (Situation Analysis) through understanding of the Global and North American supply base, manufacturing process and critical part design elements. Considering input from key stakeholders, propose the selection of the best cost, quality, development, and delivery supplier.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support, develop, gain approval, & execute “Model Situational Analysis (SA’s)” for assigned commodities/suppliers between 8~10 suppliers with $150M ~ $300M in annual spend
  • Research and monitor industry trends (sourcing, technology, market price)
  • Responsible for accurate and timely supplier selection & Bill of Material (BOM) Maintenance
  • Gain consensus on new model supplier selection, managing multiple model (13-17) developments during correlation activity with stakeholders, including Honda Motors in Japan and Automotive Design Center
  • Responsible for building long-term supplier relationships based on trust
  • Establish and achieve logical new model cost targets for commodity base through supplier selection & negotiation for all new model activity
  • Responsible for achieving annual mass production cost improvement goals (ACR), between $4M ~ $7M
  • Ensure accurate and timely quotation processing to ensure efficient payment to suppliers at Mass Production timing
  • Maintain the Global Maker Layout (GML) system and issue Global Sourcing Requests (GSR)

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or Business or equivalent experience

Average Experience: 0 – 2 Years, depending on education

Other Job-Specific Skills: Ability to negotiate based on logic, manage cost, manage supplier relationships, work in teams to build consensus, solve problems, analytical thinking, project contribution, technical aptitude.

Working Conditions

  • International travel may be required once or twice a year with an average length of 1-2 weeks per trip (10%)
  • Willingness to work overtime due to the cyclical business needs of our New Model launches
  • Open office environment with moderate level of noise and activity
  • Expect large amount of day a computer and in meetings, 10% travel to suppliers
  • In Office 80%
  • Regular occurrence of communicating and presenting information in groups for evaluation purposes
