Position Purpose

The Produce Manager is responsible for directing all aspects of the Produce Department, including sales, merchandising, inventory management, food safety, profitability, customer service, and associate development. This position ensures the department operates efficiently while delivering high-quality fresh products and an exceptional shopping experience. The Produce Manager leads department associates to achieve operational excellence and financial performance goals while maintaining company standards for freshness, presentation, and service.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Oversee the daily operation of the Produce Department.
  • Ensure department standards for product quality, freshness, cleanliness, and presentation are consistently maintained.
  • Monitor department conditions and maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked sales floor.
  • Execute seasonal merchandising plans, promotional programs, and display standards.
  • Coordinate department activities to maximize productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure department readiness during peak sales periods and special events.
Merchandising & Inventory Management
  • Manage ordering, receiving, inventory levels, and product replenishment.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing shrink and waste.
  • Ensure products are properly rotated using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust product assortment and displays accordingly.
  • Verify pricing accuracy and promotional compliance throughout the department.
  • Ensure attractive and impactful displays that drive sales and customer engagement.
Sales & Financial Performance
  • Achieve department sales, gross margin, and profitability goals.
  • Analyze sales reports and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement action plans to increase sales and improve operational performance.
  • Manage labor expenses through effective scheduling and productivity management.
  • Control shrink through proper inventory practices, quality standards, and associate training.
Customer Service
  • Promote a customer-first culture within the department.
  • Ensure customers receive friendly, knowledgeable, and timely service.
  • Assist customers with product selection, preparation questions, and special requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Foster positive customer relationships that increase loyalty and repeat business.
Leadership & Associate Development
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Conduct performance reviews and implement development plans.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
  • Identify and develop future department leaders.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor department adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain proper product handling, storage, rotation, and temperature controls.
  • Conduct routine inspections and immediately address food safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and safe equipment operation.
Safety & Loss Prevention
  • Maintain a safe environment for associates and customers.
  • Promote safe work practices and proper equipment usage.
  • Identify and address safety hazards promptly.
  • Support loss prevention initiatives to reduce shrink and product loss.
  • Ensure compliance with company security and safety programs.
