Product / AI Engineer
Description
Product / AI Engineer
Location: Hybrid, Holborn, Central London (minimum 1 day a week in the office, more is welcome) Salary: Up to £90k + equity
Benefits: Private medical, paid team offsites roughly every 3 months, regular hackathons
Type: Permanent, full time
The company
A fast-growing London AI startup whose product runs inside WhatsApp. It's picking up a lot of users and the team now needs to scale it. It's an early, AI-native team: the founders are in the office every day, and the whole company gets together for offsites every few months.
The role
You'll be the third engineer, joining the founding engineer, one other engineer and a senior architect who's laying the technical foundations. You'll own features and the AI agent work, with a direct line to the founders and a real say in where the product goes.
What you'll be doing
- Working with and on AI agents every day: changing how they behave and adding new capabilities
- Owning features end to end, from idea through to production
- Making product decisions, from a simple website interaction right through to how the agent responds to users
- Designing, evaluating and improving agent behaviour as usage grows
- Helping shape the engineering setup as the team scales
What they're looking for
- Hands-on AI agent experience. This matters most. You understand agent design principles, evaluations, sub-agents and multi-agent setups
- Agents in production. Ideally you've run agents with real users and real data, not just research or side projects
- You code with AI every day. Claude Code, Codex or similar CLI agents are a big plus, and a well-tuned personal AI setup will stand out
- Product sense. You're happy making product calls and talking business, not just writing code
- London commutable, able to be in Holborn at least 1 day a week
Nice to have
- Startup experience, ideally seed to Series A
- Full stack background
- Time in an AI-native environment
Interview process
- Screening call with the founding engineer
- Technical task, including some product thinking
- Final stage with the head of product and the team, and/or an in-office session with the founders
The process is short and they move fast for the right person.
Why join
- Early-stage ownership: you'll shape a product real people are already using
- Agent work at the core of the role, not a side project
- Equity in a growing company
- Small, close team with founders on hand daily, plus regular offsites and hackathons
