Product Coordination & IT Customs Support Intern

At Hapag-Lloyd, not only are our vessels constantly on a voyage around the globe – we as a company, and especially our internal IT department, are also on an exciting journey toward our vision of becoming the number one for quality in our industry. To keep global trade running smoothly, we have developed our own Carrier Customs Handling System, which is deeply integrated into our operational IT landscape. With electronic data interchange (EDI) connections to more than 100 countries, we ensure that customs requirements are met and that documentation flows seamlessly along the transport chain. In our Knowledge Center in Gdansk, we are currently expanding our Digital Carrier Customs product team.

As an Product Coordination & IT Customs Support Intern, you will be part of this international and innovative environment where logistics expertise meets modern IT. During your internship, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, gain valuable insights into global customs processes, product management, digital transformation initiatives, and IT operations. This is a great chance to develop your communication, coordination, and analytical skills while contributing to one of our key transformation projects and supporting daily operational activities.

Project & Product Support (approx. 60%)

  • Help the Product Manager keep business, operations and IT aligned with clear updates.
  • Track actions, owners and deadlines; follow up until closed.
  • Prepare simple meeting materials and short status summaries.
  • Organize meetings, take notes and send decisions/next steps.
  • Keep Confluence up to date (notes, decisions, risks/dependencies).
  • Collect stakeholder status and flag blockers/risks to the PM.

IT Customs Operations Support (approx. 40%)

  • Support the IT Customs Operations Team in handling support tickets (3rd line support)
  • Assist in resolving documented issues and directing complex issues to experts within the team
  • Shadow experts in the team to develop skills and understanding of customs operations, EDI, maritime terminology, and IT systems
  • Review and create operational and technical documentation in Confluence
  • Record and share operational notes and knowledge articles for the team
  • Provide support in handling the IT Customs mailbox
  • Currently studying or a fresh graduate in IT, Business Informatics, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with various stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow up on actions in a structured manner
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to learn and understand internal tools, systems, and business processes
  • Willingness to learn and take on new tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams

Nice to have:

  • Interest in Product Management, Project Coordination, Business Analysis, or Digital Transformation initiatives
  • Understanding of customs operations, logistics, shipping, or maritime terminology
  • Basic understanding of IT concepts, systems, integrations, or software development processes
  • Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, or other collaboration and project management tools
  • Experience with documentation, reporting, or stakeholder coordination activities
  • Familiarity with EDI concepts, mappings, or support processes
  • Basic knowledge of SQL or any programming language
