Summary

COTID is hiring a Product Designer to own end-to-end design of its local-first AI workspace: the design system, document/diagram editors, data visualization, and AI interaction patterns. Work centers on Figma, design tokens, and handoff to a React/TypeScript desktop app across macOS and Windows.

Compensation: 1.0% – 1.5%

Product Designer — Design Systems & AI Interfaces

Compensation: Equity + Revenue Share Type: Full-time
Remote: Optional

Own the end-to-end design of our local-first AI workspace: design system, editor interfaces, data visualization, and AI interaction patterns. You define how users compose documents, build diagrams, analyze data, and steer models—all within a cohesive, token-driven system that renders pixel-perfect across macOS and Windows.

Responsibilities

  • Design System: Component library, spacing/type/color tokens (Figma ↔ code sync), light/dark theming, empty states, accessibility baseline
  • Editor Interfaces: Document editor (Lexical), canvas/diagram/shape editors, block palette, inspector panels, command palette
  • Data Visualization: Chart components (Recharts), dashboard layouts, table views, export formats—design spec + component API for engineering
  • AI Interaction Patterns: Model selection, parameter controls, streaming responses, tool calls, citations, reasoning traces, error states
  • User Research: Usability testing on AI features, prototyping evaluation, accessibility audits, inclusive design reviews
  • Design Handoff: Figma specs with component mapping, token references, interaction annotations, state documentation
  • Cross-Platform Consistency: macOS (WebKit) vs Windows (WebView2) rendering parity, native-feel conventions
  • Design Operations: Design review cadence, design QA in staging, component deprecation, versioned token releases
  • Mentorship: Guide design interns; partner with Frontend Engineer on component implementation reviews

Qualifications

  • 4+ years product design for complex desktop or developer tools (IDE, design tool, data platform, CAD)
  • Expert Figma: auto-layout, variants, component properties, design tokens, multi-brand theming
  • Strong portfolio showing: editor interfaces, data-dense UIs, design systems, AI/ML product surfaces
  • Fluency with design tokens (Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio, or custom) and handoff to React/TypeScript
  • Understanding of SVG/Canvas rendering constraints, Recharts component API, Lexical editor chrome
  • Accessibility expertise: WCAG 2.1 AA, ARIA patterns for custom components, keyboard-first flows
  • Experience designing for local-first / offline-first applications

Preferred

  • Background in HCI, CS, or data visualization
  • Code literacy: can read React/TypeScript, suggest component API improvements
  • Experience with Tauri, Electron, or native desktop design conventions
  • Publications or case studies on AI interface design, editor design, or design systems
  • Familiarity with print/layout design (pagination, pagination-aware components)

Tauri - rust

(React 19, TS, Lexical, custom grid, Recharts). Own the rendering layer: SVG shapes, theme-aware charts, and one shared selection/interaction system across the canvas, diagram, and shape editors.

Work

  • Shared drag/resize/rotate + keyboard selection for all editors
  • Extend token-driven chart theming and the SVG shape layer
  • Design pass on pages/blocks (spacing, type, empty states)
  • Print/preview layout polish

Skills

  • React + TypeScript; strong SVG/canvas rendering
  • Design-systems experience (CSS custom-property tokens, light/dark)
  • Built or worked deep in an editor (Lexical, Slate, Draft, ProseMirror)
  • Comfortable with the UI detail work
  • Nice-to-have: Recharts/D3, Mermaid, dagre, Tauri
