The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the design of complex, technical product interfaces from early problem definition through release. This role blends visual craft with hands-on front-end coding, covering reusable interface components, interaction prototypes and a consistent experience as the product scales.

What you'll do

- Own and evolve front-end systems, from main dashboards to new user workflows.

- Work closely with fellow designers to create intuitive, fast and accessible experiences.

- Build scalable, reusable interface components that support future growth.

- Prototype quickly, test assumptions and ship iteratively to production.

- Improve front-end performance, reliability and consistency as the product surface expands.

- Partner with product, infrastructure and backend colleagues to turn complex technical workflows into clear, usable interfaces.

- Raise the standard of craft through code reviews and design discussions.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- A standout portfolio or personal site that demonstrates taste, visual polish and real product impact, supported by clear case studies.

- 4 to 8 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years building front-end applications at scale.

- Strong command of React, TypeScript and core web technologies.

- A track record of leading product design from problem framing to launch on complex, technical products.

- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining a design system, plus the ability to prototype novel interaction ideas.

- Solid understanding of UI/UX best practices and accessibility.

- Time spent at an early-stage company, working side by side with engineers; candidates from large technology companies are considered when they have a truly exceptional portfolio and more seniority.

- Comfort working across the stack when needed.

- A strong ownership mindset and confidence making ambiguous design calls with long-term impact.

- Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining trade-offs and building alignment.

- Based in New York City or willing to relocate.

Bonus points

- Background with developer tools, observability, infrastructure or data-rich products.

- Experience as a founder or founding designer.

- Experience designing AI-driven, real-time or non-deterministic user experiences.

- Strong product thinking.

- Familiarity with responsive design and mobile development.

- Contributions to backend APIs or infrastructure tooling.
