Product Designer
Location: Remote: Pacific Timezone
Schedule: 40 hours
Duration: 6 months
Pay: $100/hr - $110/hr (DOE)
The Planet Group is looking for a Product Designer to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 6-months contract, working remote schedule.
As a product designer, you'll have the opportunity to play a central role in the way we build technologies, ensuring they are valuable, easy to use and of the highest level of craft and execution. You'll be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from brainstorming the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. We'll expect you to utilize your full range of product design, interaction design and visual design skills, while contributing to high-level strategic decisions with product and executive partners.
This role supports our AI business assistant for small businesses, specifically the guided business setup experience. You will partner with a design lead to take an in-flight capability from alpha through to broader release, designing the flows that help a small business describe its goals in plain language and get set up to advertise without needing to understand advertising.
- Lead and deliver design projects of large and/or ambiguous scope within an established product direction
- Design conversational and guided flows that distill complex setup and configuration tasks into interfaces a non-expert can complete confidently
- Design new experiences and layouts that extend an existing visual system, applying established design standards rather than defining new ones
- Build high-fidelity, interactive prototypes to test flows, validate interaction models and align cross-functional partners on direction
- Partner with the capability design lead, product management, engineering, research and content design to carry work from concept through to launch
- Give and solicit feedback from designers and the broader product team in order to continually raise our bar for quality
- Contribute to strategic decisions around the future direction of the product
Job Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience building, shipping and leading applications or software that are large and/or ambiguous in scope and encompass an end-to-end experience across a variety of platforms
- Interaction design experience with knowledge of defining how an experience should behave based on understanding people's needs, plus consideration of how this innovation will scale. Ability to use appropriate prototyping tools (Figma) to demonstrate how a particular flow or interaction will work
- Visual design experience with proficiency in typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function
- Experience designing within an established design system and component library, extending it rather than working from a blank canvas
- Experience representing work to a broader product team and other leaders, clearly and succinctly articulating the goals and concepts
- Demonstrated history of ramping quickly into a complex, unfamiliar product domain and shipping within the first two months
- Experience showcasing your end-to-end design process across multiple projects, including interaction and visual design artifacts, multiple iterations, and high-fidelity prototypes
- Design workflow with AI tools and experience on AI-driven products
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with business, advertising, commerce or other professional tools, particularly for small business or non-expert users
- Communications
- Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to prototype in code, or to work fluently with code-based prototyping environments alongside engineers
- Experience designing AI-assisted or agentic product experiences, including conversational interfaces, mixed-initiative flows, progressive disclosure of automated decisions, and designing for user trust in system-made choices
- Self driven
- Ability to work independently and manage one's time
- Provide URL to portfolio showcasing case studies and examples of end-to-end project and design work
